Shantel Yeukai Chiwara, a 25-year-old member of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Citizens%27_Coalition_for_Change/">Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)</a>, has made history by being elected as the first female Mayor of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Masvingo/">Masvingo</a>. Notably, she is also the youngest person to hold the position.

Contender: Chiwara received a majority of the votes, securing 11 out of the 13 votes cast by councillors defeating Ward 10, Masvingo Urban Councillor, Sengerayi Manyanga (ZANU PF) who received two votes.

Deputy: Chiwara will be assisted in her mayoral duties by Councillor <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Daniel_Mberikunashe/">Daniel Mberikunashe</a>, also from the CCC, who won the deputy mayoral position with nine votes. Mberikunashe is serving his third term as Ward 5 councillor.
The CCC celebrated Chiwara’s election, highlighting that it aligns with the party leader <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa/">Nelson Chamisa</a>‘s vision of promoting women and young people to national leadership positions. The party emphasised the importance of empowering women and youth in governance roles. Said the party on its socials:

Shantel Chiwara (25) Elected As The Mayor Of Masvingo

The mayor of Masvingo Councillor Collen Maboke has revealed plans by the City of Masvingo to reclaim the Runyararo West dumpsite area by constructing a school.
Speaking to <a href="https://tellzim.com/council-to-construct-new-school-at-runyararo-west-dumpsite/">TellZim News</a> after a Full Council Meeting held on Monday, 03 July, Councillor Maboke said the local authority plans to reclaim the Runyararo West dumpsite which is now being relieved by the Cambria landfill.
He said the former dumpsite had become a health hazard to residents who lived nearby. Said Maboke:

There are no longer any activities of dumping refuse at the old site as we speak, as council we are planning to build a school on that site.
This is not the first time that council builds a school on a former dumpsite, previously there was a dumpsite on what is now Runyararo Primary School so we intend to utilize the land by constructing a new school and recreational facilities for Runyararo West and Victoria Ranch residents.

He said the new landfill started functioning two weeks back relieving the former dump site.
The old dumpsite had for long exposed residents from the two suburbs to foul smells, swarms of flies and smoke that came from burning of rubbish.
Though the council had stopped dumping at the site, there is still a lot of rubbish at the site.

Masvingo Council Plans To Build A School On Old Dumpsite

A gang of five armed robbers pounced on the Inter Africa depot in Masvingo in the industrial area on Wednesday and got away with US$14 524 and ZAR13 450.
ZPR spokesperson in Masvingo Province, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, told <a href="https://masvingomirror.com/armed-robbers-hit-masvingo-inter-africa-depot/">The Mirror</a> that the robbery happened on Wednesday around 1 AM.
He said the five robbers were armed with a pistol and iron bars.
The suspects first entered Quality Gas Garage where they tied Taurai Mlambo who was sleeping in his vehicle and Knowledge Mutsananguri who was guarding the premises.
They then demanded the names of the Inter Africa depot security guards from the two before they tied them using shoelaces and bundled them into Mutsananguri’s vehicle.
The suspects drove Mutsananguri’s vehicle to the Inter Africa gate and called the security guards by their names.
However, the security guards did not respond and the robbers force-opened the gate using iron bars and two of them drove into the garage.
The other three robbers then jumped over the precast wall and manhandled Kudakwashe Katiza (36) who was sleeping inside a bus.
They robbed him of his phone before tying two other guards’ feet and hands with shoelaces.
The gang then proceeded to an office and opened a safe using an iron bar and took all the money it contained.
They then drove away in an unidentified vehicle.
The security guards managed to free themselves and reported the matter to the police.
Depot manager, Cephas Machaka (36) attended the scene together with police officers.
Machaka confirmed that indeed, US$14 524 and ZAR13 450 was in the safe.

Masvingo Inter Africa Depot Robbed

A 62-year-old man died after being strangled at a funeral in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Bikita">Bikita</a>, Masvingo for asking the suspect to return his burdizzo, a specialized clamp used for castration. 
In a report seen by Pindula News, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has since arrested a man who strangled the deceased. Reads the statement:

Police in Bikita arrested Vetengeni Kwaramba (34) in connection with a case of Murder in which Webster Mhembere (62) died whilst admitted at Masvingo General Hospital after being pinned to the ground and strangled by Vetengeni Kwaramba. The incident took place during a funeral service at Romberai Village, Chief Mazungunye on 08/03/23. The victim had asked the suspect to return his burdizzo which he had taken.

Man Strangled At A Funeral Over A Burdizzo

Police in Masvingo have warned residents against turning secluded and dark spots into love nests after a 21-year-old nurse at Masvingo General Hospital was raped and robbed while in the company of her lover.
The suspect caught the nurse in the act of being intimate with her boyfriend in a car in a bushy area next to TelOne offices on the eastern fringes of the city.
Police say the unidentified suspect, who was armed with a pistol, smashed one of the windows and pointed a firearm at them and threatened to shoot if they tried to resist.
The suspect tied the 42-year-old boyfriend’s hands and feet with cellphone charger cables and left him naked in the car while the nurse was dragged to a bushy area and raped.
The boyfriend managed to loosen the cables and went to a nearby building manned by security guards where he raised alarm.
He was then assisted to make a police report at Masvingo Central Police Station.
ZRP spokesperson in Masvingo Province, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, said the suspect got away with three cellphones, a laptop and US$20 from the lovers.
When the woman returned to the car after being raped, she found it abandoned and walked to Masvingo Central Police Station to file a report.

Armed Robber Pounces On Lovers At Secluded Spot And Rapes Woman

Hundreds of people filled the streets in Mucheke suburb, Masvingo on Thursday morning when Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers brought Tafadzwa Kanengoni alias “Soda Water” who was arrested in connection with the murder of a popular tuckshop owner at Sisk business centre recently.
The people wanted to lay their hands on the tattooed Kanengoni as he arrived under heavy Police escort at the scene of the crime along Kaguvi Street, Mucheke B Masvingo for indications.
Michael Munhungowarwa (41) was shot and killed on Saturday evening as he and his wife were closing their tuckshop.
The robbers went away with an undisclosed amount of money after killing the businessman.
Reports suggest Kanengoni was arrested at a girlfriend’s place in Zvishavane.
ZRP spokesperson in Masvingo Province Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the story.

Masvingo "Jailbird" Arrested Over The Murder Of Tuckshop Owner

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced the names of <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/bus-veers-off-the-road-and-runs-over-3-people-on-new-years-eve/">three people who died on the spot when an Inter Africa bus veered off the road</a> and ran over them in Masvingo on New Year’s Eve.
 ZRP Masvingo provincial spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa told ZBC News that the deceased are:

1). Mary Gomo (43) from Chihanya village of Zaka; 
2). Margaret Chidari (43) and 
3). Chelsea Tanatswa Chidari (4) from Fambai Village, Chief Nhema area in Zaka.

The Harare-bound Inter Africa bus veered off the road and hit them at the Nyagambu area near Nhema Clinic in Zaka and killed the three pedestrians on the spot. 
The accident is said to have occurred on Saturday morning.

UPDATE: Police Name Victims Of Masvingo Bus Accident

Three pedestrians died on the spot when a bus veered off the road and ran over them in Masvingo on New Year’s Eve.
While a statement by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) seen by Pindula News did not name the bus involved in the accident, this publication has learnt that the bus trades under the Inter Africa brand. Reads the statement:

The ZRP Confirms a fatal RTA which occurred at the 15 km peg along Zaka-Nyika Road on 31/12/22 at around 1000 hours when a bus went off the road and ran over three pedestrians who were standing on the roadside. The three victims died on the spot.

 In another road traffic accident, a motorist driving a Volvo F series truck lost control of the truck and veered off the road to the left where he hit a stationary Honda Fit vehicle which had five occupants.
Three passengers in the Honda Fit vehicle died on the spot, while two others were injured.
The accident occurred at the 39 km peg along Harare-Bulawayo Road on 31 December 2022 at 1730 hours.
 Statistics from police and the Traffic Council of Zimbabwe indicate that human error, bad weather, mechanic fault and poor roads are the leading causes of accidents. 
Members of the public are encouraged to observe road rules to save lives.

Bus Veers Off The Road And Runs Over 3 People On New Year's Eve

The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has said it condemns political violence in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gutu">Gutu</a>, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Masvingo_Province">Masvingo</a> which it said is being perpetrated by members of the ruling ZANU PF.
The party said it will remain focused on its goal to win the 2023 elections, <a href="https://tellzim.com/political-violence-rears-ugly-head-in-gutu/">TellZim</a> reported citing CCC spokesperson, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Fadzayi_Mahere">Fadzayi Mahere</a>. She is cited as saying:

No amount of panic and lawlessness by Zanu PF will get in the way of political change whose time has come. We condemn the escalation of political violence in Gutu that is being perpetrated by Zanu PF.
We remain focused on our task of registering citizens to vote in their millions so we win big in 2023. We have assembled peace and security teams to protect our members. Gutu and neighbouring communities remain defiant and are ready to do whatever it takes to win Zimbabwe for change.
</blockquote>
<h2>Some context:</h2>
It is alleged that members of the ruling ZANU PF in Gutu North and Central constituencies are attacking individuals believed to be opposition party supporters.
Teachers at Machingambi Secondary School were on November 22, 2022, also subjected to alleged victimization at the hands of Zanu PF’s Gutu District Coordinating Committee (DCC) vice chairperson identified as Musara after participating in a data collection exercise on behalf of Australia-based academic Professor Felix Mavhondo, according to TellZim.
Musara allegedly accused teachers at the school of working for opposition political parties after establishing that Prof Mavhondo had tasked them to collect data on his project in form of questionnaires.
During the run-up to March 26, 2022 by-elections CCC supporters were attacked at a rally in Kwekwe <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/11-of-the-16-arrested-for-violence-murder-at-ccc-kwekwe-rally-released/">leading to the death of Mboneni Ncube after being stabbed with a spear.</a>
The Gokwe-Kabuyuni by-elections held on August 27 saw Nelson Chamisa’s <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/mahere-says-zanu-pf-thugs-attacked-chamisas-convoy-citizens-attending-gokwe-rally/">convoy under attack allegedly by senior ZANU PF officials</a> with Local government minister July Moyo allegedly involved.
Senior ZANU PF officials are on record <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/owen-ncube-threatens-worse-than-2008-political-violence-against-sell-outs/">threatening that 2023 will be worse than 2008</a> when members of the opposition MDC were attacked and killed in the run-up to the run-off election.
Political analysts say the 2023 elections will likely be bloody.

CCC Condemns "Escalation Of Violence In Gutu Being Perpetrated By ZANU PF"

Four members of the same family died in a road accident that occurred on Friday 30 September 2022 in Norton.
A police statement seen by Pindula News says they died on the spot after a Land Rover Defender vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road and overturned before landing on its wheels. Reads the report:

The ZRP reports a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 30/09/22 at around 1130 hours at the 7.5 km peg along Skyline Road, Norton. Four family members died on the spot when a Land Rover Defender vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road and overturned before landing on its wheels.
</blockquote>
In another road traffic accident, three foreign nationals died when a Volvo XC90 vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road before landing in a ditch. 
The accident also occurred on the 30th of September at around 1430 hours at the 170 km peg along Masvingo-Beitbridge Road.
The driver and one passenger died on the spot whilst the other passenger died upon admission at a local private hospital.

Four Family Members Die In A Road Accident In Norton

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has called for suitable candidates to apply for solar heating design and installation training to be held in Masvingo from the 10th to the 14th of October 2022.
A statement seen by Pindula News says suitable candidates should send their resumes by eh 30th of September 2022. Reads the statement:

Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) in partnership with SIRDC shall be conducting a five-day Solar Water Heater Design and Installation Training Course to improve local capacity in Solar Water Heater installations. The training targets people with a technical background preferably plumbing who are working for companies that design, install and distribute Solar Water Heaters in Zimbabwe.

ZERA To Conduct A Solar Water Heating Design And Installation Training

More than 100 student nurses at Masvingo Provincial Hospital nurse training school were forced to look for alternative accommodation outside the school precincts following the closure of halls of residence at the institution.
The facilities were condemned as unfit and unsafe for human habitation. At least 120 student nurses now have to commute to the hospital daily to attend classes.
Masvingo provincial medical director Dr Amadeous Shamu confirmed the closure of the halls of residence at the institution to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/masvingo-hospital-nursing-school-shuts-halls-of-residence/">The Herald</a> but denied that the facilities were condemned. He said:
<blockquote>
The reasons for the closure are not what you heard but I cannot say anything more because I am not allowed to speak to the press.
</blockquote>
Meanwhile, a senior hospital official who refused to be named told The Herald that the entire institution has a faulty plumbing system. He said:
<blockquote>
The whole hospital, including the provincial nurse training school, relies on a plumbing system that is outdated and in urgent need of an overhaul.
Major repair works are needed for the plumbing system to function normally again.
We had to close halls of residence at the nurse training schools because the state of the plumbing system no longer made it possible for people to stay inside.

Masvingo Hospital Nursing School Closes Halls Of Residence

A Grade two pupil at Murerekwa Primary School was knocked down and killed by a vehicle while patching potholes and charging motorists passing by.
The incident occurred on 12 August a few meters from the Murerekwa school turnoff towards Roy.
The boy, Blessing Gomana, was hit and dragged for several meters by the motor vehicle.
Ward 8 councillor Tererai Tererai confirmed the incident and said the deceased has already been buried at his home in Gwara village under Chief Ndanga. Said Tererai:

The boy was patching potholes a few meters from the Murerekwa school turnoff towards Roy when a white guy stopped and offered him US$5 as a token.
When he drove off, he mistakenly racked him with a boat trailer he was pulling and dragged him only to stop after some meters.
The driver later stopped and helped the boy to Ndanga Hospital but he died because he had lost a lot of blood.
The driver assisted the family with US$570 to cater for funeral expenses.
</blockquote>
Meanwhile, Masvingo Provincial Roads Engineer Robert Mukome has urged parents to forbid children from working on roads. He said:
<blockquote>
As a word of advice to parents, please prohibit children from working on highways as motorists will be travelling at very high speed.
The speeding is dangerous to their safety. May this information be relayed through schools within the highway’s corridors as more noise on this notion will help.
Again as a ministry we are still facing some operational challenges constrained mainly on resources.
Management is still engaging all relevant stakeholders to come up with a long-term and sustainable intervention to address this mishap we are encountering.
Let’s continue to exercise patience and caution as we traverse this route, We are working flat out to ensure required resources are availed to address this life-threatening danger posed by the current status of our road.

Grade 2 Pupil Knocked Down, Dies While Patching Potholes

Award-winning Masvingo dancehall chanter Elias Chimbuya (26) popularly known as Dudemaster has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Tafadzwa Chiumba (35) over a twist of dagga.
<a href="https://masvingomirror.com/drug-abuse-masvingo-dancehall-chanter-gets-life-in-prison/">Masvingo Mirror</a> reports that Justice Mawadze of the High Court in Masvingo said Moyo was slaughtered like an animal and described the murder as heartless in his three-hour-long judgment. He attributed the action of the accused to drug abuse.
<h2>What transpired:</h2>
Chimbuya together with an accomplice, Adonia Moyo (28), stabbed the deceased several times and hit him with 17 bricks on the head until they crashed his face. 
The two mutilated the deceased’s manhood and cut it with a knife until they left it hanging on thin skin. All this was over a US$0.50 twist of mbanje.
Chimbuya and Moyo told the court that they were intoxicated and had been smoking dagga.
In his ruling, Justice Mawadze said Chiumba bought a twist of mbanje from the accused for US$0.50. He produced a US$5 note and his attackers got upset when he asked for his US$4.50 change. Said Justice Mawadze in delivering judgment:

The inhuman conduct is cruel and even animals killed for meat are not slaughtered in such a manner. The deceased only bought a sachet of dagga from you and he even paid for it. You could have slapped him in the face or run away as you claimed in your testimony. Authorities should look into drug abuse because most heinous crimes are being committed by drug-abusing youth.

The incident happened on July 15, 2021, at Zambezi Bar at Dunira 1 Mall, Victoria Ranch where the three were drinking beer.

Dispute Over Mbanje: Award-winning Zimdancehall Chanter Jailed For Life Over Murder

CCC councillors in Masvingo Urban have demanded that Masvingo City Council management should consult them first before approving donations from city coffers.
The issue of donations was raised by newly-elected Ward 4 councillor Alec Tabe during a recent full council meeting.
Tabe quizzed management on the “so-called donations” by the local authority towards various government and ZANU PF-linked occasions. He said:

Can management furnish us with details on this issue of donations that has become so common in our council minutes? Can’t there be another term to explain that?
There is a need for management to consult councillors before approving some of those donation requests.
Some of the so-called donations have provoked residents in our wards as residents seek explanation on the initiatives of which as councillors, we won’t have any.
</blockquote>
Re-elected Ward 7 councillor Richard Musekiwa urged council management to refer requests for donations to councillors who are also politicians to deliberate on them before approval.
He said it was not right for council management to table the requests before councillors for ratification long after the funds are disbursed. Said Musekiwa:

Since those people who come applying for donations are politicians, it would rather be better for you management to consult councillors who are also politicians to deliberate on the matter, unlike a situation in which the requests are brought before councillors after the funds are disbursed.
</blockquote>
Responding to the requests by councillors, Town Clerk Engineer Edward Mukaratirwa said that in future, they will inform the people applying for such donations to first forward their requests to councillors before approval of such.

Councillors Want Council Management To Consult Before Making Donations

Three armed robbers who allegedly got away with US$13 000 and three vehicles in three incidents in Mvuma and Mberengwa in less than 24 hours have been arrested in Masvingo.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the arrest of Rhinos Takawira (42) of Chivi, Tinashe Marimo (22) of Murehwa and Praise Gudlanga (30) of Mutare.
He told The Chronicle that police recovered two pistols, a safe, cellphones, three stolen motor vehicles and US$1 500. He said:

A notorious armed robbery gang which came to fame after carjacking two motorists in Mvuma, in one night, have been accounted for in a smart arrest in Masvingo.
The robbers’ Mvuma exploits were reported in the media on June 30.
</blockquote>
What Transpired:
On June 28, Takawira, Marimo and Gudlanga allegedly robbed a Mvuma businessman of US$2 000 and a Honda Fit before robbing a woman of her Toyota double cab motor vehicle.
The trio allegedly then drove the vehicle to a fuel filling station in Mberengwa the following day.
They fired one shot from a pistol and robbed the filling station, getting away with a safe containing US$11 000 and a Toyota Wish motor vehicle.
They left the twin cab stolen from Mvuma at the filling station.
On June 30 around 1 PM, police officers in Masvingo saw the gang while it was in the process of abandoning the stolen Toyota Wish to board a Zupco bus.
All three were swiftly arrested and interviews that followed cracked many robbery cases committed mostly in Masvingo and Midlands Province.
They are being held in police custody in Masvingo.
Police are yet to establish the total number of cases committed by the three and values involved.
As it stands police have recovered two pistols, a safe, cellphones, three stolen motor vehicles and US$1 500.

Robbers Who Got Away With US$13 000 Arrested

Communities in the Chatsworth area of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gutu">Gutu</a> have been hit by rustling with two farmers recently finding the carcasses of their stolen beasts in the bush.
The carcasses were of four beasts stolen from Widgeon Farm by unknown thieves. It remains unclear why the rustlers abandoned the meat after slaughtering the cattle.
Farmers in the cattle-rich area are now concerned over the rustlers who they suspect could be working with unscrupulous butchery operators from Chatsworth and the nearby Mpandawana Town.
Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa Sunday told <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/horror-as-gutu-villagers-recover-carcasses-of-stolen-cattle/">The Herald</a> that the cattle belonged to Mr Gift Dube (47) of Plot 28, Village IB at Widgeon Farm, and Ms Silvia Goko, of Plot 35 in the same village. The cattle were stolen on Monday last week. Inspector Dhewa said:

We are still investigating the case after our teams attended the scene. The carcasses were handed over to the owners of the stolen beasts and no arrests have been made to date.
</blockquote>
Police are urging cattle farmers to consider practising collective penning to secure their livestock, which could be an effective way to curb livestock theft.
Stock thieves have been hunting across Masvingo province, especially in Bikita, Mwenezi and Gutu where rustlers have stolen hundreds of cattle, with some reportedly working in alliance with corrupt police officers.

Cattle Rustlers Hit On Gutu, Masvingo Farmers

Masvingo residents were this week left enraged after Masvingo City Council pumped muddied water into their homes.
The city has experienced water challenges over the years which culminated in the sacking of town engineer Tawanda Gozo last year for incompetence.
Masvingo United Residents and Ratepayers Alliance (MURRA) Information Officer, Godfrey Mtimba said the city fathers have failed to repair burst water pipes for three weeks. He said:
<blockquote>
We are appalled by the slow response by council despite pleas by residents for about three weeks.
The dirty water is a threat to our health, we fear an outbreak of water-borne diseases could erupt, so we urge council to speed up the process of repairing the water pipes.
</blockquote>
Mayor Collen Maboke said the brownish water emanated from maintenance works being done by the local authority. Said Maboke:
<blockquote>
Our personnel have been cleaning the storage tanks and pipes so as a result of that the water came out with a brownish colour. We are working flat out to rectify the situation.
</blockquote>
This is not the first time that Masvingo residents have received muddied water from the local authority.
In January 2021, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/01/18/council-says-discoloured-tap-water-is-not-a-health-concern/">Council admitted that it had been pumping muddy water into homes and businesses</a>, saying the problem was caused by maintenance work that was carried out on a major pipeline.

Masvingo Pumps Muddied Water Into Homes

Former Member of Parliament for Masvingo Central, Jeffreyson Chitando (MDC), has requested Masvingo City Council to furnish him with receipts to prove that ZANU PF had booked its two grounds for its scheduled rallies that never took place.
Chitando wrote to the Masvingo town clerk and the mayor and gave the duo five days to provide proof that ZANU PF had indeed paid for the use of Mucheke and Mamutse stadiums.
This comes after the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) was denied use of the stadiums on the basis that ZANU PF had already booked them for its rallies. Wrote Chitando:
<blockquote>
I understand that the procedure for applying for a rally is that a political party first seeks clearance from your office if the proposed venue is free for use.
The police in their letter of disproving CCC application was that Masvingo City Council stadiums were booked by ZANU PF.
In this regard as a citizen, resident and ratepayer of Masvingo City Council I am demanding full proof of payment of both stadiums by the mentioned political party.
… Town Clerk, if the above subject is not solved in an amicable manner we will take legal action, until council act positively.
This issue has to be acted by council in less than five working days, meaning on 31 March we will issue a statement to Masvingo residents and ratepayers.
</blockquote>
Chitando also said that if the council wasn’t paid for the facilities, the revenue lost should be paid by whoever blocked CCC from booking the venues.
ZANU PF didn’t hold the rallies at Mamutse and Mucheke on Sunday 20 March and the grounds were instead used for hosting football matches.
ZANU PF Masvingo Provincial spokesperson, Ophias Murambiwa said they couldn’t hold the rallies because they had to sort out some issues first.
He said the rallies were going to be held this week after the chairman and provincial leadership had met and deliberated on the issue.

Former MP Demands Explanation From Council Over ZANU PF Fake Rallies

A Bishop with Zion Church in Bikita, Masvingo Province was recently fined five beasts by a Community Court after being found guilty of impregnating a married woman.
Bishop Joel Musariri from Musariri Village was fined five cattle by Chief Mpakwa for bedding Admire Manganye’s wife, Tendai Muguraumwe.
The adulterous affair between the clergyman and Muguraumwe reportedly started in 2009 and went undetected for many years until some villagers, who knew what was happening between the two, revealed to Manganye that he was not the biological father to one of Tendai’s children.
Manganye then confronted his wife about the allegations and she confessed that she had been sleeping with the Bishop behind her husband’s back and that one of the children was sired by the churchman.
This prompted Manganye to approach Chief Mpakwa’s traditional court suing Musariri for bedding his wife.
<blockquote>
Both Muguraumwe and Musariri confessed their illicit affair before Chief Mpakwa’s court.
</blockquote>
The traditional leader ruled that it was unfair for Musariri to make Manganye look after his own child for over 10 years without his knowledge.
Chief Mpakwa confirmed to B-Metro that he ordered Musariri to pay five beasts as compensation for impregnating Manganye’s wife. Said the chief:
<blockquote>
Manganye was disappointed and felt upset and betrayed. This was after he discovered that for years he had been looking after another man’s flesh and blood.
As a Chief, I felt that it was unfair for Musariri to order Manganye to bear full responsibility for a child who was not his and that’s why I ordered him to pay five beasts as compensation.

The traditional leader also said he chided Musariri for his adultery as his actions were against social customs, values and ethos and also unbecoming for a purported man of God.

Bishop Fined Five Beasts For Impregnating Married Woman

The Masvingo High Court on Saturday gave the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) permission to stage its campaign rally in Masvingo at Rujeko Open Grounds on Sunday.
The order was granted on Saturday morning by High Court judge, Justice Sunsley Zisengwe after CCC filed an urgent chamber application after the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) had issued a prohibition order against the rally.
Officer Commanding Masvingo Central District, Chief Superintendent Simangaliso Dube, had denied the request by CCC to host the rally on the basis that ZANU PF was hosting two similar rallies in the district.
However, Justice Zisengwe issued an interim order granting permission CCC permission to hold the rally and directed the police not to interfere with the event. The judge said:
<blockquote>
Respondents and all those acting through them be and are hereby interdicted from interfering with or cancelling applicants’ by-election campaign launch at Rujeko A open Grounds on the 20th of March 2022 between 1000hrs and 1600hrs.
</blockquote>
CCC Masvingo district chairperson, Martin Mureri, told New Zimbabwe that the party was going ahead with its preparations for the rally. Said Mureri:
<blockquote>
Today the High Court gave us the go-ahead to host our provincial rally so our people are now on the ground mobilising support and publicising the event. Our president, Nelson Chamisa will be in attendance.
</blockquote>
Police have blocked CCC from holding rallies in Gokwe, Marondera and Binga while the ruling ZANU PF party has been staging its events without hindrance.

Relief For CCC As High Court Okays Masvingo Rally

Former Masvingo Urban MP, Tongai Matutu, who defected to ZANU PF said he was the “best brains” during his time in opposition.
Matutu left the then MDC Alliance that was led by Nelson Chamisa after he was disqualified from contesting the provincial chairmanship post ahead of the 2019 Gweru Congress.
Matutu is among several former MDC officials who are being used by the ruling ZANU PF party to de-campaign their erstwhile colleagues ahead of the 26 March by-elections.
During a recent ZANU PF campaign rally at Pangolin shopping centre, Matutu was asked to address supporters by the provincial chairperson Robson Mavhenyengwa. Said Matutu:

There is nothing there, I have been there you know it and I am one of the few who had brains and now that we are no longer there, who else is there?
There are two types of votes, spoiled and counted votes, spoiled are those where you fail to put an X where it is required or voting for two or more candidates and also voting for the opposition is now spoiling a vote.
So I want to urge you to vote for Zanu PF to avoid spoiling your votes.
</blockquote>
ZANU PF secretary for security and senator for Gutu District Lovemore Matuke said Matutu will be invaluable for the ruling party in its quest to win all wards previously held by the opposition. He said:
<blockquote>
We are going to win the by-election here in Masvingo urban. We have Comrade Matutu here whom we are travelling with.
He knows the valves to open so that things work in our favour.

CCC, MDC Alliance Parties 'Brainless', Claims Tongai Matutu

A group of rowdy and drunk youths attacked the aides of Nelson Chamisa, the leader of opposition MDC Alliance in Charumbira, Masvingo. The party believes the assailants had been sponsored by ruling ZANU PF. 
The violent mob stoned vehicles, blocked roads with burning logs and badly injured members of Nelson Chamisa’s delegation and advance team. 
An eye witness said Chamisa’s aides had to go back but they had already been injured. As she narrated the ordeal, the audience was chanting “pasi nemhandu” a slogan that was popularised by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The audience ululated when the narrator mentioned that the MDC officials had been injured.  Watch the video below for more details

Zimbabwe Coronavirus/ COVID-19 Update: 11 October 2021

Five Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) leaders were on Saturday arrested by police while attending a General Council meeting in Masvingo, the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) have said.
The leaders, Takudzwa Ngadziore, Nancy Njenge, Calvin Muvheyi, Allan Chipoyi, Paidamoyo Masaraure and Lennox Machoko, were detained at Masvingo Central Police Station.
They were charged with criminal nuisance as defined in Section 46 of the Criminal Code as read with paragraph 2v of the 3rd schedule of the Criminal Code, ZLHR revealed.
Meanwhile, the five ZINASU leaders have been released from police custody after paying ZWL$2 000 fine each.
They were arrested for refusing to allow police officers to attend the ZINASU General Council meeting at Lee’s inn Hotel in Masvingo.
Police charged them with criminal nuisance for such an act.
They were represented by Martin Mureri of the  Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.

Police Demand To Attend ZINASU Meeting

A taxi driver from Masvingo last week lost his Toyota Sienta car to a passenger who had hired him for a beer-drinking escapade.
Masvingo acting police provincial spokesman Sergeant Lloyd Musundire confirmed the incident.
He said Shepherd Dzapasi (29) a taxi driver from Mucheke A, Masvingo fell prey to the antics of a man only identified as Ronald at Nemamwa Business Centre. He said:

On 15 September Dzapasi around 5 pm was in Jerera when he was approached by a man only identified as Ronald and was hired to drive him to Masvingo for US$4. Dzapasi agreed and they came to Masvingo but when they arrived in town Ronald told Dzapasi that he had to take care of some business at Nemamwa. Dzapasi agreed to a US$25 deal to ferry him to the Business Centre. The two arrived at Nemamwa Business Centre around 10 pm and they got into a nightclub and started drinking beer. After some time Ronald told Dzapasi that he was tired and wanted to rest in the car. Dzapasi gave Ronald the keys while he remained behind in the club.

Dzapasi later went outside the club and found Ronald and his car missing. He waited for some time but Ronald did not show up. 
He later called Ronald to inform him that he was going to report him to the police and he hung up. When he tried to call him again the phone was no longer reachable.
Dzapasi reported the matter at Masvingo Rural Police Station and the matter is now under investigation.

Masvingo Taxi Driver Loses Car To A Passenger

School heads in Zaka District, Masvingo Province, have said they are ready for opening schools as they will just need a week or two to finalise preparations before learners come.
The headmasters said this during a recent provincial tour by Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Cain Mathema to assess the state of preparedness of schools to offer face-to-face lessons that were suspended due to the COVID-19 third wave.
Chimedza Primary School school head Johannes Mucheki said they will be doing hot-sitting where pupils will be split between morning and afternoon sessions so as to decongest the school. He said:

We are ready if the President asks us to open the schools. We have supplies of most of the required PPEs that can take us for some time as we mobilise for more and if the government promises to help us with other requirements then we can open the schools.

Mutimwi Primary and Mutimwi High school heads said after managing to reopen following last year’s initial COVID-19 induced lockdown, they were now better equipped for another reopening.
The school heads at schools toured by Mathema said they had necessary literature on COVID-19 displayed at all vantage points at the schools, together with hand-washing facilities at entrance points, as well as sanitisers in all classes.
They also said they have sick bays ready to quarantine any suspected cases of COVID-19 in school premises, which they said would be in contact with the nearest health centres for assistance in cases of emergencies

"Give Us A Week Or Two", School Heads Say They Are Ready For Reopening

Another Masvingo Police Officer has allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide following a domestic dispute in which he allegedly suspected infidelity.
Sgnt Elias Kutsira who worked in the Police Armoury Section and stayed by Zimuto Camp died at Masvingo Provincial Hospital Tuesday afternoon.
His death comes barely a week after another Masvingo police officer, Kennedy Mange, committed suicide by hanging himself in Victoria Ranch.
The Mirror was told that Kutsira committed suicide after a domestic dispute in which he allegedly suspected infidelity.
Masvingo Provincial Police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said he was not aware of the issue.
However, sources told the publication that the deceased took poison on Monday and died On Tuesday.
Kutsira allegedly left his home on Monday and threatened not to return only to come back on Tuesday after taking the alleged pesticide and was rushed to hospital where he died.

Another Masvingo Police Officer Commits Suicide

A couple from Hillside, Masvingo reportedly succumbed to Covid-19 related complications within hours of each other.
The Mirror reports that the couple which stayed near Hillside shops has only been identified as the Masunda’s.
Sources say the woman died outside Rujeko Isolation Centre inside a vehicle driven by her husband on Tuesday at around midnight before nurses could attend to her.
Meanwhile, Masunda who was driving the vehicle was admitted with shortness of breath and connected to an oxygen supply tank before he died at around 4 am. Said the source:
<blockquote>A car parked at the isolation at around midnight and when we went to attend to the car, the woman had already died and we immediately admitted Masunda who had shortness of breath, and connected him to an oxygen supply tank.</blockquote>
The couple is said to have exhibited Covid19 symptoms since Monday.
Provincial Covid19 spokesperson Rodgers Irimayi said he was yet to receive the report but urged individuals to get vaccinated against the lethal delta variant. Irimayi said:
<blockquote>I am yet to receive information on the couple. We are, however, urging everyone to get vaccinated especially in the wake of the delta variant which is claiming lives and killed millions in India. Everyone should adhere to measures put in place by Government to curb the spread and effects of Covid19.</blockquote>
This is happening as Zimbabwe is grappling with a third wave of the coronavirus that has seen new infections and deaths rising astronomically in the recent past.

Masvingo Couple Dies Within Hours Of Each Other

Police in Masvingo have arrested a 30-year-old man suspected of raping scores of women in the city after using WhatsApp platforms to lure them.
Police reportedly used dogs to arrest Petros Mudzingwa on Thursday after he was cornered in Morningside.
According to Masvingo Mirror, a parade for victims to identify the suspect was expected to be held at Masvingo Central Police Station on Friday.
In a statement on its Twitter page, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) expressed gratitude to members of the public who assisted police with information that led to Mudzingwa’s arrest. ZRP said in a tweet:
<blockquote>The ZRP applauds members of the public for supplying credible information to the Police. On 17/06/21, Police in Masvingo arrested Petros Mudzingwa (30) for a spate of rape and robbery cases committed in and around Masvingo.</blockquote>
Citing sources, Masvingo Mirror reported that so far two raped women have been positively linked to Mudzingwa.
Various other unresolved rape cases have been reopened to see if the suspect was not involved.
Mudzingwa originally comes from Jonathan Village in Chikarudzo under Chief Mugabe but currently is of no fixed aboard.
In Masvingo, he allegedly frequented low-density suburbs like Morningside, Rhodhene, Zimre Park and Eastvale where he targeted women for robbery and rape.
Mudzingwa’s luck finally ran out when he allegedly saw a message from a woman on a WhatsApp group who was looking for her lost personal documents including her passport and national identity card.
After seeing the message, Mudzingwa allegedly contacted her pretending that he found the documents.
He lured the woman to a secluded place in Morningside where he allegedly raped and robbed her of valuables.
The victim reported the case at Rujeko Police Station in Masvingo and Police engaged Econet for investigations.
