The opposition secessionist Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) party has accused Chief Sinamagonde of Binga South of attempting to prevent people from attending their rally in Chibila Village, Ward 22.
MRP said the police cleared the rally for 18 May 2023 but Chief Sinamagonde instructed his headmen to arrange meetings in their separate villages.
The opposition party said the traditional leader did this to prevent villagers from attending their political rally.
MRP’s council candidate Coaster Mathe told <a href="https://cite.org.zw/mrp-accuse-binga-chief-of-blocking-rally/">CITE</a> that before the rally, Chief Sinamaginde started telling villagers not to attend their rally “because they must support ZANU PF.” Said Mathe:

Nothing can stop Mthwakazi from going ahead but it was challenging to have the rally, which was supposed to start at 9 am and end at 4 PM.
Despite the chief’s efforts, we carried on with our rally with the people who were there.

Chairperson of the MRP Youth League, Mudenda Chilumbo, also claimed that Chief Sinamaonde tried to disrupt their rally. Said Mudenda:
<blockquote>
There were eight meetings in one area so that people would be occupied but because the meetings had no agenda, some started protesting and others realised those meetings were a ploy to prevent them from coming to us.
Some people then left the meetings while some headmen who sympathise with us told the villagers they were acting under the chief’s orders to keep them.

However, when contacted for a comment, Chief Sinamagonde told CITE that MRP was trying to hurt his reputation. He said:
<blockquote>
You must ask MRP if they came to me as chief of the area. Even after receiving police approval, they should have gone to me as the chief and informed me they will be meeting with people in the area.
I heard they were accusing me of withholding people from attending their rally.
I cannot deny anyone permission to attend rallies. As a chief, I lead everyone regardless of who they are.
How can I block people if people are the ones who don’t want to go, must I force them to attend rallies?

Chief Sinamagonde said he doesn&#8217;t know why MRP insulted him, adding he holds his own meetings to revive village structures as he is a new chief.
In December 2022, MRP accused Chief Mzimuni Masuku of Gwanda of abusing his authority after he allegedly cancelled their rally that had been cleared by the Police.

Mthwakazi Republic Party Accuses Binga Chief Of Blocking Rally

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has said it is probing murder cases reported in Hwange, Concession, Binga, Gokwe and Zvishavane recently. Police urged members of the public to resolve disputes amicably. Pindula News presents a statement by the police.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating various murder cases which were reported countrywide. It is sad to note that some of the perpetrators are people who would have been left in custody of the victims while other cases are arising out of disputes which can be resolved through dialogue and engagement by the concerned parties. 
In Hwange, a 3-year-old male juvenile was left in custody of his stepfather, Nkatazo Penga (38) while the mother, Estere Tembo (40), visited a family field at Nekatambe village Dete, on 5th September 2021. The minor was later found dead with bruises and assault marks all over the body. Police arrested the suspect who was found carrying an axe. 
In a related case which occurred in Binga, a man, Mapei Dhongola hit the victim, Miccah Mudenda (34) with a stone on the head after the victim restrained the suspect from assaulting people for an unknown reason at Siachilaba Business Centre on 03rd October 2021. The victim was referred to Siansundu Clinic where he died upon arrival.

Police Investigating Murder Cases In Hwange, Binga, Zvishavane, Concession, Gokwe

Long-serving Chief Kavula (90) of Lubimbi area, Binga District, has died following complications with his heart and lungs.
His family confirmed his death at Binga Hospital on Sunday after being sick for a long time.
Chief Kavula, who was born Muleya Nkamu Mukusi, was the last surviving senior chief in Binga after the district lost Chief Sinamagonde who died at the age of 78 in November last year.
Binga has 17 chiefs and a majority of them are from the younger generation.
At the time of his death, Chief Kavula was pushing for clarity on the fate of more than 400 households from his area who are set to be displaced by the construction of the Gwayi-Shangani dam.
He also feared that the communities were going to lose on their culture, grazing land and natural springs after the completion of the dam being constructed by China International Water and Electric Corporation (Pvt) Ltd at a cost of US$147 million.
The project aims to bring to an end the perennial water shortages in Bulawayo and other areas in the Matabeleland North Province.
Six villages namely Kamombo, Chubuyu, Kanjondo, Bumputu, Chiboni and Kavunikwa making up Lubimbi 1 and 2 will be affected by the dam whose completion is set for this December.
There is no communication yet about where they will be resettled.
Lubimbi Ward 20 Councillor Chrispen Munkuli said the chief’s death had left the community without a leader. Said Munkuli:

Our chief died on Sunday and this is a sad loss to the whole community especially at this time when we were still pushing for clarity on what will happen to people when the dam is completed.

Chief Kavula was born in 1931. He was appointed Chief Kavula on 1 February 1984, replacing his brother Zenge Kavula who had died in 1978.
The traditional leader and his subjects settled in Lubimbi in the 1950s.
Chief Kavula will be buried on Friday at his homestead.
He is survived by four wives, 16 children, and 49 grand and great-grandchildren.

Chief Kavula Of Lubimbi Area Dies, Aged 90

More than 100 pregnant women have been quarantined in Matabeleland North after they tested positive for COVID-19.
According to Matabeleland North Provincial Medical Director Dr Munekai Padingani, of the 110 expecting mothers, 70 are at Binga District Hospital, 37 are at Tsholotsho District Hospital while 3 are at Lukosi Hospital in Hwange.
He said most of the women were in stable condition and have mild symptoms and what is also positive is that the virus has no effect on unborn babies.
Padingani said the women could have contracted the coronavirus while going to buy foodstuffs from business centres near the hospitals.
In order to curb the spread of the virus among expecting mothers, health authorities are now restricting movement and they are also being tested when they check in to waiting shelters at respective health institutions. Said Padingani:
<blockquote>Those mothers go out to buy food and they meet different people hence they have contracted the virus.
When they come in we test them but now we have to keep them inside and restrict movement.
The virus doesn’t affect the unborn babies and it&#8217;s only in the event that the mother delivers while positive that measures have to be taken to protect the baby.</blockquote>
Padingani said no pregnant woman has been vaccinated in the province as the country is yet to adopt World Health Organisation (WHO) advice to also vaccinate expecting mothers.
WHO recently released guidelines certifying the vaccines safe for use by everyone above the age of 17, including pregnant and breastfeeding women.
Pregnant and breastfeeding women were not being vaccinated as there were fears the drug could have adverse effects on the unborn and breastfeeding babies.

110 Pregnant Women At 3 Hospitals Catch Coronavirus

North-west Binga and parts of the Zambezi Catchment area on Monday experienced a minor earthquake, the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has confirmed.
The tremor hit the area around 12:32 pm, 70km northwest of Binga, but no damage was reported. MSD senior weather forecaster James Ngoma said Tuesday:
<blockquote>There was a 3.6 magnitude earthquake in Zambia, 70km northwest of Binga. No damages were reported.
Most of these earthquakes with a magnitude below 5.5 do not cause any significant damage.</blockquote>
Ngoma said these tremors were a common occurrence around the Kariba Dam due to the pressure exerted on the earth&#8217;s crust by the weight of water. He said:
<blockquote>The tremors are referred to as load-induced tremors or specifically reservoir-induced tremors.
In the case of the Kariba Dam, they are a result of the earth crust’s response to the water load or weight of water given the size of the dam.</blockquote>
Ngoma added that the reservoir-induced tremors had been occurring since 1963 when the Kariba Dam started filling up.

He said over 1 000 tremors of magnitude 4.0 have been recorded but these termors do not affect the structural integrity of the dam.
Meanwhile, two tremors with a magnitude of 4.0 were recorded in the Zambezi Valley around Kariba Dam on April 1 and April 2 in 2020 at 19:29 hours and 17:31 hours, respectively.
The epicentre of the 1 April earthquake was said to have been approximately 3km southwest of the Spurwing Island Lodge, or 27km South of the Kariba Dam.
The epicentre of the 2 April earthquake was approximately 65km east of the Kariba Dam wall.

3.6 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Northwest Binga

A Binga man has been arrested for axing his uncle to death following a dispute on whether to sell or slaughter the former&#8217;s cow.
Police say William Sibanga Muzamba (57) was drinking traditional beer with his 62-year-old uncle Simati Mefias Mudimba from Chief Pashu area when he consulted about selling his cow.
The deceased, Samati Mefias Mudimba, reportedly advised against the sale of the cow suggesting it should be <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/08/21/midlands-cattle-dying-because-of-lack-of-water-and-pastures-report/">slaughtered for meat since it was old and had lost weight.</a>
The accused, William Sibanga Mudimba, is said to have objected to the idea of slaughtering the cow leading to the dispute.
Witnesses said it was the now-deceased Mudimba who first pulled the axe and threatened to strike his nephew with it but was disarmed.
Matabeleland North police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the murder and arrest of Muzamba. Said Inspector Banda:

A man was murdered by his nephew with an axe following a misunderstanding over sale of a beast.
On 24 April around 5pm William Sibanga Muzamba and Simati Mefias Mudimba were drinking traditional beer at the informant Fanson Muleya’s homestead when the two had an argument.
Muzamba was telling his uncle Mudimba about selling his beast but he (deceased) told him not to sell it and suggested that it be slaughtered because it was old and had lost weight.

The deceased reportedly started insulting his nephew and proceeded to pull a small axe from his trousers, threatening to kill him.
Muzamba is said to have disarmed his uncle before striking him twice on the head causing his instant death.
Other villagers fled from the scene while the owner of the homestead, Fanson Muleya, ran to Pashu police post where he filed a report.
Muzamba surrendered himself to the police leading to his arrest for murder.

Man Kills Uncle Over Cow Selling Dispute

A fifty-year-old woman from Binga reportedly struck her boyfriend with an axe at the back of the neck after he went to drink beer leaving her alone.
It is the state’s case that in March last year, the accused, Saria Munkombwe of Siawara village under Chief Siachilaba and Mr Gilbert Mumpande of neighbouring Siafugama village under Chief Saba fell in love and arranged to visit each other’s homestead weekly on a rotational basis.
They agreed to spend a week at Munkombwe’s homestead and the following at Mr Mumpande’s.
In October of last year, the duo arrived at Mumpande’s homestead who left in the morning to drink beer at a neighbouring village only to return around 8 pm.
Munkombwe had gone when he returned and he then followed her to her homestead that is said to be about 20 km from his.
Munkombwe came out when he knocked on the door, became violent, pushed him and went back into the house to take an axe.
She struck Mumpane on the back of the neck causing him to bleed profusely. In the morning, she took the axe and handed herself to the police.
Munkombwe pleaded not guilty to attempted murder charges when she appeared before Hwange regional magistrate Mr Collet Ncube.
She was remanded out of custody on her own cognisance to April 24 for the continuation of trial.

50-Year-Old Woman Axes Boyfriend, Hands Herself To Police

A gold panner from Binga is fighting for his life at Binga District Hospital where he is reportedly unconscious after a botched suicide attempt.
Lastmore Ngwenya (24) tried to kill himself after he had raped and beheaded his wife, Muchite Munkuli (23), who had ended their relationship.
The couple is from Chamateme village under Chief Siachilaba in Binga District and the two were married for an undisclosed period of time.
According to prosecutors, Munkuli fell sick in October last year and consulted a self-proclaimed prophet who told her she had been bewitched by her husband’s father prompting her to pack her bags and leave her matrimonial home to live with her parents.
The matter involving the couple’s separation was heard by Chief Siachilaba on Christmas Eve after village head Amos Mungombe had referred the matter to the higher traditional court after failing to reconcile the couple.
Chief Siachilaba summoned the two’s families and on December 24, ruled that the marriage was no longer safe and a consensus was reached for the couple to separate and share property.
However, on the next day, which was Christmas Day, Ngwenya allegedly killed his wife and then cut his own throat with an unknown sharp object.
Munkuli’s bloodstained body was found by her sister around 8 am and had a deep cut on the throat, both palms and chin, with her undergarment torn and removed to knee level while there was semen on her privates.
Binga magistrate Urgent Vundla remanded Mnkuli to next week Friday on his hospital bed for a charge of murder and rape.

Four people escaped death by a whisker after the plane they were in crash-landed on Wednesday morning in the Luunga area in Binga.
The Herald reports that the single-engine Cessna plane, registration number ZSIZG a C210, which is believed to have left Kariba Airport on Wednesday morning ceased mid-air at Chibuyu in the Luunga area of Binga under chief Sinakatenge about 180km from Binga.
The plane was headed for Sijarira Forests on the South Western shores of Lake Kariba when it crash-landed.
Sijarira Forests are a hit with wilderness loving tourists as they offer game viewing, fishing and swimming opportunities.
The four were rescued and transported to a camp in Sengwa for first aid before they were ferried by a boat to Rhino Camp and later transferred to a health facility in Kariba.

A woman from Chivhu was this week arrested after her neighbors tipped off law enforcement agents for neglecting her child who later died in hospital a day after she was arrested.
This was revealed by ZRP on Twitter which stated that the woman abused her 1 year 9 months old child by leaving her unattended without food and not changing her diaper for 3 days.
ZRP Tweeted:
<blockquote>A Chivhu woman was arrested on 27/12/20 for ill treating her one year nine months old daughter. The suspect abandoned the child at home without food or being changed diapers for over three days and left her unattended.
Police received a tip-off from members of the public before rescuing the baby and taking her to a local hospital. <blockquote>Police continue to urge parents to monitor children as they play. A minor aged four years drowned and died in a small dam at Songwa Village, Chief Sinamagonde, Lusulu on 28/12/20. The infant was herding goats with three colleagues when they proceeded to a small dam to swim.

Heavy rains in Binga &#8216;s Lusulu area which is under Chief Sinamagonde left over 200 people homeless after it destroyed over 30 homes on Sunday, the Chronicle reports.
It is reported that a 15 minutes heavy downpour followed by heavy winds and thunderstorms destroyed homes and left villagers including orphans, widows, the elderly, and children affected by the short but devastating downpour.
Narrating the disaster Ms. Tryphine Ngwenya who lost her stock of maize meal and her home&#8217;s roof said:
<blockquote>It was a terrifyingly violent storm. I could feel the foundation of my house shaking as the structure took a pounding from driving rain and strong winds.
Minutes later, the wind tore off the roof and bits of plaster rained into the house. I have never been so afraid. I watched helplessly as the roof and trusses of my entire house were blown off.
My son was screaming. I thought of rushing to my in-laws place but couldn’t because the winds were very strong and violent while the rain blinded me.</blockquote>
Another victim, a widow named Fortune Javure who also lost part of her home narrated her ordeal and said:
<blockquote>We had to quickly remove the furniture which was in the affected rooms. Some of the property was heavily soaked by water while some of the electric gadgets were also damaged. It’s a relief that I was not injured as I managed to escape together with my four children,
The rains lasted about 15 minutes but they caused severe damage and I am still in a state of shock. I don’t even know how I will raise money to replace the damaged property since I am a widow</blockquote>
Many people who spoke to the Chronicle about the downpour said they were shocked by the short but devastating downpour. CPU was quick to respond to the disaster and it was already distributing maize to the victims.

Heavy Rains Destroy 30+ Homes In Binga

A 77-year-old Binga Johanne Masowe Apostolic Church member was trampled to death by an elephant during a prayer vigil in Siabua, Binga last week on Friday.
Saria Muzamba of Sinamsanga village under Chief Siabua tripped and fell while other congregants fled in different directions as the elephants descended on the shrine at around 2 am.
Police and Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority confirmed the death of Muzamba. The police said:
<blockquote>On 11 September at around 2 am Saria Muzamba and other eight members of Johanne Masowe apostolic church were sleeping in a bushy area near Sinamansanga Secondary School where they were holding a night prayer service.
A herd of elephants came and attacked the congregants who ran away in different directions.</blockquote>
When the church members returned to the shrine, they found Muzamba already dead with bruises on the face and chest.
Police and Zimparks rangers attended the scene and retrieved the body.

A GMB Binga Depot supervisor Zebron Hungwe a clerk Gladys Mugande, and a district’s social welfare officer Regret Mudungwe were arrested after they allegedly stole close to 4 tonnes of drought relief maize from the depot, The Chronicle reports.
The trio reportedly connived and forged invoices which they apparently used to divert 74 by 50kg bags of maize from the depot to an unknown place, before claiming that they maize had been delivered to Sunrise Children’s Home at Binga Centre and Kabwe Children’s Home in Pashu within the district.
The matter came to light in court where the 3 stood accused of fraud and theft of trust property. It is the state&#8217;s case that:
<blockquote>During the period extending from July to September and at GMB Binga depot, the three accused persons connived and issued out dispatch documents purporting to account for maize issued to Sunrise Children’s Home and Kabwe Children’s Home
Mr Mabhaudi visited Sunrise Children’s Home for investigations and established that no such delivery of maize had been made. The home has a monthly allocation of four bags of maize which its authorities confirmed receiving for the month of August as opposed to 32 bags as alleged through the forged invoices.
Kabwe Children’s Home has a monthly allocation of seven bags of maize contrary to 46 indicated in the fraudulent records by the trio.</blockquote>
The trio was released on bail and investigation are still ongoing at the depot to determine the amount of maize the trio might have stolen.

The government has distributed rice and maize meal to communities in Binga, Sunday News reports. While addressing beneficiaries that had gathered to receive the rice and mealie meal, Matabeleland North Provincial Minister Richard Moy said the food they were distributing was from VP Chiwenga who according to him hearkened their call for food shortages and made the distribution possible:
<blockquote>As you know we are always here in Binga, last time I came with VP Chiwenga. Zanu-PF leadership managed to talk to VP Chiwenga where they complained about hunger here in Binga especially the areas surrounding Bulawayo Kraal as there was no yield during the last farming season as the irrigation was not operating.
The Zanu-PF Central Committee members from the district requested for food from the Vice-President which is the food I am here to hand over. VP Chiwenga liaised with President Mnangagwa who in turn advised the Vice- President to act with vigour to bring food here before the situation further deteriorates,</blockquote>
Moyo also said they will be launching the Pfumvudza/Gatshompo project in the region soon:
<blockquote>Next week we will be launching the mechanisation programme, I call upon traditional leaders to encourage their communities to adopt this concept and register with the Agritex officers so that they benefit in the mechanisation programme.</blockquote>

A teenager from Chief Saba’s area in Binga took his own life by hanging and left a suicide note claiming he was tired of living after he admitted to r_ping and impregnating his 17-year-old niece.
According to Matabeleland North police spokesperson Chief Inspector Siphiwe Makonese, the 18-year-old boy was summoned by family elders on Saturday on suspicion that he had r_ped and impregnated his niece.
The teenager allegedly admitted to having slept with his niece and then disappeared from home on Sunday.
Following a search by villagers, the now deceased’s body was found hanging with a piece of wire from a tree in a nearby bush on Monday morning. Chief Insp Makonese said:
<blockquote>We received a case of a teenager who committed suicide after family members leant that he had impregnated his niece and summoned him for a family meeting.
He allegedly hanged himself after being asked about the issue. We are concerned because this is one of the many cases of abuse of girls by a close relative.</blockquote>

Binga Teen 'Tired Of Living' Commits Suicide

A cross border courier popularity known an omalayitsha Lenos Sithole (41) of Magwegwe North suburb in Bulawayo was arrested after he teamed up with unnamed accomplices and pulled down 640kgs of overhead copper cables valued at US$200 000,  The Chronicle reports.
Sithole who is denying the charges levelled against him is said to have loaded the copper cables into a Toyota quantum with South African plates before they were intercepted at a fuel queue at Cross Dete.
In the court papers filed on behalf on Sithole in his bail application, Sithole denies the charges levelled against him and said:
<blockquote>There is no eye witness to state that indeed I travelled to and from Binga in the vehicle in question. I was heavily assaulted by police officers who arrested me while at my home. I met one Insurance Nhongo for the first time in prison and police are misleading the court by stating that I was at Cross Dete and also participated in the alleged crime which took place in Binga as I was never there
Police officers are only assuming that I was in the vehicle because of the TIP and my passport and nothing else. There was no identification parade, not even a single witness who can safely say I was present at the crime scene save for inadmissible confession from Nhongo
I was born in this country and have lived in this country for the better part of my life. I do not have the means and ability to escape the jurisdiction beyond the reach of law enforcement agents, and I am of fixed abode.</blockquote>
The state-led by Mrs Sifiso Ndlovu-Sibanda opposed bail and said there was overwhelming evidence against Sithole who reportedly committed the crime on 10 January this year.

A Binga fisherman died under mysterious circumstances while fishing with his brother in the Kawunga area on the Zambezi River on Thursday last week.
According to a police report, Geneva Muleya (38) of Siavhandu village under Chief Saba fell off a canoe (boat) in which he was seated behind his bother Remember Mungombe, aged 27, of Katanye village in Chief Siachilaba area. The police report said:
<blockquote>On 21 May, Remember Mungombe and the now-deceased were sailing using a canoe on the Zambezi River going for fishing in Kawunga area.
The two brothers were seated one behind the other in the canoe.
Mungombe, who was in the front, suddenly heard the sound of splashing water and upon checking, he saw that his brother had fallen into the water and was drowning.</blockquote>
Mungombe reportedly watched helplessly while his brother drowned. On the following day, he teamed up with other fishermen to search for the body which they retrieved under a log in the water.
A Binga magistrate waived post-mortem as no foul play was suspected.

A 71 aged man from Lusulu Village in Binga died after he fell from a tree while he was attempting to commit suicide, The Chronicle reports. The incident was confirmed by Matabeleland North police spokesperson Chief Inspector Siphiwe Makonese who told the publication that:
<blockquote>On 18 May at around 4PM the now deceased was at his homestead with his granddaughter aged 16. He tried to hang himself from the roof truss in his bedroom hut and was restrained by the granddaughter.
He later on went outside the bedroom hut after lying to his granddaughter that he wanted to get something from a tree in the yard. The minor reportedly begged her grandfather not to climb the tree to no avail.</blockquote>
The deceased was identified as Sianganda Mudenda of Zungwane 11 Village in Siandindi and his wife was not at home when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Binga is potentially sitting on a tourism gold mine according to The Chronicle. According to the publication, the Binga beach on the Zambezi river could be a tourist attraction to the Matabeleland South Town same way the falls are to Vic Falls.
Binga Rural District Council CEO spoke to the publication and said there are plans to develop the area into a recreational park:
<blockquote>There are plans to develop the place. Initially there was an investor who was leasing it and had built some structures intending to make it a fully developed recreational centre but later left.
“We have finalised the process of arranging for getting new investors and probably after next month we may advertise for investors. We have some that have approached us but we have to go through the legal process and advertise,</blockquote>
The place is reportedly close to aerodromes and many activities like fishing and boating can be done in Binga:

An unfortunate incident occurred in Matebeleland North&#8217;s Lubimbi in Chiboni Village under Chief Kavula, on the boundary of Dete and Binga where a 3-year-old girl died after the bedroom she was sleeping in was gutted by fire on Sunday, The Chronicle reports.
The incident was confirmed by Matabeleland North police spokesperson Chief Inspector Siphiwe Makonese who said:
<blockquote>We received a report about a child who died when a bedroom hut she was sleeping in caught fire in Lubimbi. We are investigating what could have happened and the cause of the fire.
We appeal to people to have extra care especially with regards to children who should be guarded all the time. Extra care should be given to children to protect them against all sorts of accidents the same way we appeal for their protection for different kinds of abuse.</blockquote>
According to Inspector Makonese, the girl&#8217;s mother and her husband had gone to fetch water when they returned to find the house in which the toddler was sleeping in on fire.

Lubimbi Toddler Burns To Death In A Bedroom Hut Fire

A man from Binga, Themba Muleya of Sikhalala Village under Chief Dobola who was convicted for murder and was released from prison in the 2018 presidential amnesty ran amok and killed his 2 5-year-old nieces in cold blood, Sunday News reports.
A source told the publication that the 2 children had just returned home from school when their uncle picked up an axe and struck them both instantly killing them.
Said the source:
<blockquote>On 19 March at 5pm Vivid Muleya and Review Tshuma arrived home from Mulindi Primary School in the company of System Mudenda (7) and Andile Nyirongo (5).
They found the accused and their grandmother, Mrs Janet Munkombwe at home. The accused person armed himself with an axe and struck Vivid and Review causing their instant death.</blockquote>
The motive for the murder is not known. The incident was confirmed by the Matabeleland North police spokesperson Chief Inspector Siphiwe Makonese. Muleya was arrested on the scene.

Binga Man Released From Prison Through The Presidential Amnesty In 2018 Commits A Double Murder

A Gokwe man, Evans Ngwenya (20) allegedly fatally struck his Zambian business partner, Paul Banda, with a log and fractured his skull following a dispute over the sharing of profits after the two had sold fish.
The Chronicle reports that Banda succumbed to the injuries upon admission to Siabuwa clinic. The publication also reports that the duo had a dispute at Sengwa Fishing Camp in Binga.
Ngwenya who is now facing a murder charge in connection with Banda’s death has since approached the High Court seeking bail pending trial.
The State, however, opposed the bail application arguing that there was no guarantee that Ngwenya would not abscond once released on bail. Representing the State, Ms Nokuthaba Ngwenya said:
<blockquote>The applicant is said to be from Gokwe and had visited Binga on fishing expedition and police are still making efforts to confirm his village of origin. It would, therefore, be risky to release him on bail because there is a likelihood of absconding.</blockquote>
She added that there was overwhelming evidence against the accused and the investigations have been completed hence releasing him would not serve justice.
The amount of money which te duo was fighting for is not known.

A Gokwe man who was living with his sister in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Binga">Binga,</a> who went berserk and axed 5 people to death in cold blood last week explained why he axed those 5 people who were his brother in law&#8217;s neighbours in court, The Chronicle reports.
Christopher Gotore told the court that he had a recurring dream in which he saw the deceased trying to kill him. According to the publication, Gotore:
<blockquote>Told the court that he killed the victims because he was haunted by a recurring dream where he always saw the victims in a vision visiting him with pigs and threatening to kill him. He said one of the victims Admire Nyangarai and his brother-in-law Mr Bruce Sibanda’s aunt Chiravigwa Sibanda threatened to kill him in his sleep.</blockquote>
The magistrate has ordered that he be examined by 2 psychiatrists before his next court appearance on 24 March.

Binga Axe Killer Explains Why He Axed 5 People

2 stranded people who had been deported in Botswana allegedly stabbed and killed a motorist who had given them a lift in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Plumtree">Plumtree</a>, and burnt his body using tyres, The Chronicle reports
The matter came to light at the Bulawayo High Court where Mehluli Bhunu (26) of Maronga village in Dete in Matabeleland North and Trust Ngwenya (18) of Lusulu in Binga stood accused of murdering Memory Deredza.
One of the accused Bhunu narrated how they killed Deredza and said:
<blockquote>We were deported from Botswana and did not have enough money to proceed to Plumtree where my aunt stays hence we decided to hitchhike. The deceased offered us a lift but we did not disclose to him that we only had 50 pula, which we knew was not enough for the trip to Plumtree
Along the way, Deredza demanded 50 pula from each of us and we indicated to him that we only had 50 pula in our possession, but he insisted that it was not enough. I then spoke in Tonga to my co-accused and suggested that we request the deceased to stop on the pretext that we wanted to relieve ourselves yet our intention was to jump out and flee without paying
When I tried to follow Ngwenya, the deceased got suspicious and he blocked me from disembarking and I noticed a knife on the dashboard,

They set alight his body and drove away with his car and sold his stolen cellphone which led to their arrest.

Popular Nigeria church leader TB Joshua has donated food, blankets, toiletries and stationery to people who were affected by the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/02/11/floods-hit-binga-over-120-villagers-perched-on-treetops/">floods that hit Binga</a> last month, The Chronicle reports.
The donations worth $12000 which were brought in by the preacher&#8217;s Emmanuel TV team were received by the Matabeleland North Provincial Minister <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Richard_Moyo">Richard Moyo.</a>
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Mr Desire Masuku, Emmanuel TV relief disaster coordinator said:
<blockquote>This donation towards the Binga flood victim is coming from Prophet TB Joshua in Lagos, Nigeria. He sent 300 blankets, stationery and food hampers worth US$12 000.
This was brought into the country last week and we got blessings from the Minister (Richard Moyo) to distribute the goods to the affected families.</blockquote>
The government has said they have drilled boreholes and have set up 30 tents to accommodate people who lost their homes in the floods.

A man from <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gokwe">Gokwe</a> last week axed 5 people to death, axed a calf and a cattle and touched a hut for reasons yet to be ascertained, The Chronicle reports. The incident happened in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Binga">Binga</a>&#8216;s Lusungu area on Friday.
According to the publication, the deceased includes:
<blockquote>Mr Sibanda&#8217;s 7 year old Shan, Mr Admire Nyangarai, his wife Ms Bibeat Munsaka, the couple’s one-year-old baby Loice Compassion Nyangarai, who was axed while on her mother’s back. Ms Chiravigwa Shumba, whose age not given but originally from Makope Village under Chief Sayi in Gokwe.</blockquote>
All of the victims lived in close proximity to 20-year-old Christopher Gotore of Marapira area under Chief Jiri in Gokwe who was living at the Nyangarais when he committed the heinous crime. ZRP confirmed the incident, Gotore is in custody at the moment.

Gokwe Man Axes 5 People To Death

Vice President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kembo_Mohadi" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Kembo Mohadi</a> has implored businesses to adopt zones in areas that they operate and maintain them to ensure a clean environment at all times.
He made the remarks on Friday in a speech read on his behalf by the Minister of State in his office, Davies Marapira, during the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Matabeleland_North_Province" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Matabeleland North</a> provincial clean-up campaign at <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Binga" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Binga Centre</a>. Said Mohadi:
<blockquote>Businesses should adopt zones to maintain and keep clean as well as placing anti-litter billboards or posters in strategic points so that they impress residents and visitors to the centre on the need to keep the environment clean at all times.</blockquote>
Mohadi said while previous clean-up campaigns had been concentrated around cities, 2020 has a difference as the focus is now on small towns, rural service centres and growth points.
He further encouraged Binga Rural District Council to take a leading role through adopting proper waste management programmes as it is a tourist destination renowned for game fishing on the Zambezi River, boat cruising, scenic viewing and cultural tourism.

Mohadi Implores Businesses To Adopt Clean Zone Areas

In a tragic incident in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Binga" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Binga</a>, an 11-year-old boy, Munkuli Amusomi, a Grade Five pupil at Malube Primary School, was killed by a crocodile while swimming with friends on Friday.
The crocodile attack occurred on a stream near Binga centre around 5 PM. Acting Binga district coordinator, Farai Marinyane, confirmed the incident. He said:
<blockquote>I can confirm receiving a report of a fatal crocodile attack.
A young boy was dragged into deep waters at a stream at Binga Centre.
Police attended the scene and retrieved the body.
The crocodile has been a problem in the Siabuwa area, attacking villagers’ animals especially during the rainy seasons and it’s sad that this time it has taken a human life.</blockquote>
Last year, on separate occasions, two juveniles cheated death in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Hwange" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Hwange</a> district after they were attacked by the reptiles while swimming.
