The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced that 12 people have been arrested over the violence that broke out at Barbourfirelds at the weekend during a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match between Highlanders and Dynamos.
In a statement seen by Pindula News, Police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said full-scale investigations are in progress to account for all suspects who were involved in the violence. Read the statement:

12 Arrested Over Violence At Barbourfields Stadium During Highlanders Vs Dynamos Match

The police in Bulawayo have made six arrests in connection with the violent incidents that occurred at Barbourfields Stadium during a football match between Dynamos and Highlanders.
The chaos erupted in the 38th minute when agitated Highlanders fans threw objects and invaded the pitch, leading to clashes between fans and the police. The match had to be abandoned abruptly, with Dynamos leading 2-0. Eight individuals sustained injuries but have since received medical treatment and are in stable condition. Among the detainees, one person was charged for possessing a firearm, albeit with an empty cartridge. Bulawayo Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube, confirmed the arrests and urged the public to refrain from acts of violence. Ncube told the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/6-arrested-over-bf-violence/">Chronicle</a>:

We are warning members of the public to desist from acts of violence. This follows an uncalled for and avoidable conflict which occurred at Barbourfields stadium on Sunday. Circumstances are that there was a Premier Soccer League match between Highlanders and Dynamos, the match was then abandoned after the supporters invaded the pitch, erupting violence which led to people being injured and also to malicious damage to property.
Eight people sustained varying degrees of injuries but are all in a stable condition. So far six people have been arrested where four are being charged for criminal nuisance, one for failing to secure a firearm after his cash in transit revolver with an empty magazine was found in custody of his girlfriend who was also arrested. Police would therefore like to warn members of the public to desist from this violent behaviour.

Ncube emphasised that such behaviour would not be tolerated, as it results in property damage and unnecessary loss of life. He said the police are determined to address these incidents and maintain public safety.

Bulawayo Police Arrest Six For Violence At Barbourfields Stadium During Highlanders Vs Dynamos Match

Highlanders Football Club has offered to assist the police in apprehending supporters who allegedly looted alcohol from a supermarket in Kwekwe.
<a href="https://www.bmetro.co.zw/police-seek-rogue-bosso-fans/">B-Metro</a> reported that the alleged looting spree occurred when a group of travelling Bosso fans ransacked a supermarket on their way from an away Castle Lager Premiership match against Ngezi Platinum Stars on 30 July 2023.
Highlanders had won the match 1-0 before the looting later that afternoon.
Speaking at a mid-year meeting held at the clubhouse last Sunday, Highlanders chairman Johnfat Sibanda, said:

It’s unfortunate that we still have supporters among us who continue to soil the name of the club by engaging in unruly behaviour.
We received complaints that a group of supporters who travelled for an away match looted a supermarket, stealing alcohol.
We can’t be certain if they are indeed Highlanders supporters because anyone can wear a Bosso jersey and behave in a manner that goes against the values, principles and tradition of Highlanders.
Police have been handed the security footage of the incident and if they ask us to assist them apprehend the culprits, we will certainly do so.
We have a security department that can assist us and say; the people on that footage are so and so, and these are their addresses.

Meanwhile, in the same mid-year meeting, club board chairman Luke Mnkandla, praised Highlanders fans for a peaceful 2023 half-season of the Castle Lager Premiership campaign. He said:

We would like to commend our members and supporters in general for good behaviour that has seen fewer cases of missile throwing at Barbourfields Stadium.
Throwing missiles and invading the pitch hurts the club financially so we are happy that the first half of the 2023 season has been peaceful.

In previous seasons, Highlanders has been fined more than US$20 000 by the Premier Soccer League for unruly behaviour by supporters.

PSL Matchday 18 Fixtures And Results: Highlanders Extend Lead

Highlanders extended their lead at the top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League log standings after their 1-0 win over Ngezi Platinum Stars in a top-of-the-clash battle at Baobab Stadium on Sunday.
Bosso not only ended the first half of the 2023 season without a loss but also moved seven points clear at the top, thanks to Lynoth Chikuhwa’s second-half effort.
The top six teams on the log after 17 games are: Highlanders (37 points), Ngezi Platinum Stars (30 points), Manica Diamonds (29 points), Dynamos (28 points), Chicken Inn (28 points), and FC Platinum (26 points).
Speaking to the media after the match at Baobab Stadium on Sunday, Highlanders coach Baltemar Brito said he made some changes in the second half which unsettled Ngezi. <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/sport/article/200014704/highlanders-juggernaut-rolls">He said</a>:
<blockquote>
Ngezi’s intention was to start the game well and they pressed us high up. We were afraid of doing some mistakes, so we started to play direct balls and it’s not the kind of play that helps our short guys.
So we sat down and analysed the game and made the necessary changes in the second half and the game changed.
We scored and we didn’t concede any, so we are happy but we know we have a long way to go.

Ngezi Platinum Stars coach Takesure Chiragwi bemoaned his players’ failure to convert the chances that they created. He said:

We lost three crucial points at home because of the mistakes that we made in terms of finishing in front of the goal.
We created a lot of opportunities and we should have wrapped up this game in the first half and when you play a team that is tactically disciplined, you have to utilise the chances that come your way.
We learn from that and it’s part of the game. We have to rise from this situation and concentrate on our next game against Bulawayo Chiefs.
Generally, we put everything on the field for us to win this game but football is like that, if you don’t score you are likely to lose a match.
There were a lot of things that we did correctly which is good for the team, so we will take those and make sure we correct the mistakes that we made.

Highlanders Go 7 Points Clear In Premier Soccer League Title Race

Dynamos Football Club emerged victorious against <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Chicken Inn</a> in <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Premier Soccer League</a> (PSL) matchday 15 held at <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Barbourfields Stadium</a> in Bulawayo, propelling them to the fourth position on the league table. The Glamour Boys team made four changes to their starting 11 from last week. Elvis, Chikona, Denver Mukamba, and Musiiwa were included in the starting lineup. The substitutes for the match included a total of nine players.

2023/24 PSL Results And Fixtures For Matchday 15

Former Highlanders and Warriors striker, Mandla Balanda real name Mandlenkosi, has died aged 54. <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/mandla-balanda-dies/">The Chronicle</a> reported that Mandla died on Sunday after battling an unnamed illness for some time.
His death came just a few days after overseas-based former Zimbabwean footballers raised funds to assist with his medical bills. Netsai Moyo, who handed over the cash donation, confirmed the news of Balanda’s passing, which he had received from the family that morning. Moyo said:

Its true he is no longer with us. I got news from the family this morning. Sad news for Zimbabwean football.
</blockquote>
Balanda played for Eagles, Darryn T, and Highlanders, and had a successful stint in Botswana, where he is remembered as one of the best dribblers to have graced their shores. Balanda’s football career began at a young age, playing plastic football in the streets of Mpopoma, and he later attended John Tallach boarding school where he specialised in soccer.
Balanda’s professional career began when he joined Hunyani FC, where he played alongside his late brother Clement Balanda, Joe Mbarure, and Peter Kolly. He was called up to the under-20 national team and helped his team win the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) tournament.
He joined Harare-based Tornados FC, a club that was eventually sold to Darryn T textiles. He was then spotted by scouts from TaskFC, a Botswana-based outfit, and he joined the Francistown outfit to form a deadly partnership with Patrick Zibotshwa.
Balanda spent a season at TaskFC and then moved to Gaborone United FC, where he became a household name and helped the team clinch the Botswana Premier Soccer League championship. He returned to Zimbabwe and showcased his top-drawer skills at Highlanders, where he was a scoring machine. Balanda was spotted by veteran coach Ali “baba” Dube during a social soccer match and quickly joined the Amahlolanyama team, which had a galaxy of players. Balanda’s unforgettable game was when his side clashed with DeMbare in an epic battle at Babourfields.
The passing of Balanda is a great loss to Zimbabwean football, and he will be deeply missed by fans and fellow players alike. He is survived by his wife Roselyn Dube and five children. Balanda was born in 1969 and hailed from Nkayi in Matabeleland North province. He was a Christian and had a successful career as a panel beater and spray painter after quitting soccer.

Former Warriors, Highlanders Striker Mandla Balanda Dies

Highlanders are the Independence Day Cup winners for the second successive time after beating Dynamos 5-3 on penalties at Mt Darwin High School on 18 April.
The country’s two biggest football clubs took their rivalry away from Harare and Bulawayo to Mashonaland Central Province as part of the main 43rd Independence Day anniversary celebrations.
Yesterday, Highlanders were forced to play one man down for long periods, after Andrew Mbeba was sent off for a crude tackle on Nyasha Chintuli, in the 33rd minute.
The match ended 0-0 and had to be settled through a penalty shootout.
The Glamour Boys’ Emmanuel Paga, who failed to find the back of the net with only the goalkeeper in his sight in the 85th minute, had his penalty saved by Ariel Sibanda in the shootout.
Highlanders coach Baltemar Brito said his boys deserved the win after keeping Dynamos at bay with 10 men. He said:

I’m happy to have finally won my first silverware in the country, it means a lot for the entire technical team and the fans who travelled all the way from Bulawayo. The boys played well
Mbeba made a mistake and his teammates accepted it and fought for the club to win this trophy.
I’m happy with how we managed the game. The boys were just confident and I think they deserve it.

DeMbare coach Herbert Maruwa bemoaned his strikers’ failure to convert the chances they created. He said:

We did well in all the departments but our strikers let us down.
They missed a lot of chances and in football, you can only win by scoring goals and that’s what we failed to do.
But, overall, I’m happy with how the boys played, it’s only the final third where we need to be more ruthless.

Highlanders Beat Dynamos On Penalties To Lift Uhuru Cup

Highlanders Football Club, arguably the local club that draws more fans at its home games, has been accused of ignoring security advice against transporting cash from their gate takings using unescorted private vehicles.
<a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/bosso-accused-of-defying-security-advice-on-transporting-gate-takings/">The Chronicle</a> reported that two female employees and a member of the executive allegedly took over US$5 000 after the Sunday match without any security escort.
The publication cited sources as saying the incident occurred soon after the counting of total gate takings and doing reconciliations from their league match against FC Platinum at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday where 11 046 fans were in attendance.
Two employees and one executive member (names supplied) were reportedly observed packing the money into plastic containers before walking out and getting into a private vehicle and driving off. Said a source:

At the pre-match meeting, it was clearly stated that clubs must engage CITs from reputable security companies to transport cash, especially now that fans, a majority of them, pay using forex.
That advice was obviously directed at Highlanders who are in the habit of doing that.
It was therefore surprising that a few hours later, they did exactly what security at the pre-match meeting had advised against.

It was not clear whether the money was being taken to the club offices or not.
Highlanders communications and marketing officer Nozibelo Maphosa could not reveal whether the trio’s actions were with the consent of the club, or the club has a contracted Cash-in-transit (CIT) van. She said:
We are not aware of such allegations, and for obvious security reasons, we cannot divulge to the public how we transit our cash.
On 29 September 2015, then Highlanders secretary Emmet Ndlovu was robbed at gunpoint at Edenvale in South Africa.
The robbers got away with US$300, P300, and R25 000 of club money.

"Highlanders Ignored Security Advice On Transporting Gate Takings"

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Highlanders_Football_Club">Highlanders Football Club</a> defeated <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/FC_Platinum">FC Platinum</a> 2-1 in matchday 3 of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) played this Sunday at Barbourfields.
This is the first time Bosso has defeated the Zvishavane-based reigning champions in about ten years.  
Highlanders goals came from Stanley Ngala, a former FC Platinum player, and defender Peter Muduhwa. They scored in the 27th and 33rd minutes respectively.
FC Platinum scored their consolation goal in the second half.

PSL Results: Highlanders Beat FC Platinum

Highlanders Football Club have announced their players and coaches ahead of the start of the 2023 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season, with <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Joel_Luphahla">Joel Luphahla</a> being given a new role.
Luphahla, previously the second assistant coach, is now the strikers’ coach, according to the <a href="https://www.sundaynews.co.zw/highlanders-reassign-joel-luphahla/">Sunday News</a>.
The former Warriors striker has a CAF C coaching badge, which means he cannot be an assistant coach to Baltemar Brito.
Last season, Luphahla could not sit in the technical zone after ZIFA directed that Premier Soccer League coaches and their assistants must be holders of CAF A.
Club legend, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Madinda_Ndlovu">Madinda Ndlovu</a>, who recently made a return to Bosso is the first assistant coach while Antonio Torres comes as the second assistant. Torres has a Uefa B but is said to be working on upgrading his qualifications.
Goalkeepers are still under the care of Daniel Khumalo, and former Highlanders player Abraham Mubaiwa has been brought in as a fitness trainer, taking over from Harold Nhachi.
Vezigama Dlodlo retained his position as the welfare and logistics manager. Also still in the same post is long-serving Loyal Nyika, the physiotherapist.

Highlanders Announce Luphahla's New Role, 2023 Coaches, Players

Highlanders head coach Baltemar Brito will miss his team’s 2023 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season-opening match against ZPC Kariba, reported the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/bosso-coach-off-to-portugal/">Chronicle</a>.
The 71-year-old Portuguese national is set to leave Zimbabwe this Tuesday for his home country for a refresher course.
Brito is a Uefa Pro Coaching licence holder with vast experience. The Uefa Pro badge is the highest world-recognised qualification in football that enables one to coach anywhere in the world.
The licence is valid for three years therefore holders have to renew it in order to continue carrying out their coaching duties.
Brito has worked as Jose Mourinho’s assistant coach at FC Porto in Portugal, Chelsea in England, and Inter Milan in Italy.
Highlanders communications and marketing officer Nozibelo Maphosa confirmed Brito’s unavailability for the opening match of the season. She said:

Coach Brito is leaving this week to regularise his Uefa Pro in Portugal.
We will be announcing our 2023 technical staff before the start of our 2023 season.

In the absence of Brito, club legend Madinda Ndlovu, who was recently appointed as the first-team assistant coach and head of junior development, will be in charge of the first team.
The club is reportedly making plans to ensure Joel Luphahla and Antonio Torres sit on the bench with reassigned titles.
Last season, Luphahla and Torres were prohibited from the bench as ZIFA implemented club licensing which requires PSL coaches and their assistants to be CAF A licence holders.

Highlanders Coach Baltemar Brito To Miss 2023 Season Opener

Highlanders say no decision has been made regarding assistant coach Joel Luphahla’s status, who doesn’t hold the requisite qualifications to sit on the Premier Soccer League (PSL) bench.
It is mandatory for PSL coaches to possess a CAF “A” badge or equivalent. Luphahla is a holder of a CAF “C” Licence.
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has emphasized that they will not be making any exemptions anymore.
Highlanders chief executive officer Ronald Moyo on Thursday dismissed reports that Luphahla has resigned from the club. Moyo said:

Let me set the record straight on the resignation letter. If there is such a letter, it has not come to my office and I can confirm that I have never received such a letter.
It has not come to my attention. Maybe it will come in the future but as far as I am concerned there is no such letter.

Luphahla is said to be on his way to MWOS FC, a team that is based in Norton and will be competing in the ZIFA Northern Region Division One league this year.
Moyo said head coach Baltemar Brito and the other assistant Antonio Torres are expected in the country in the next two weeks. He said:

Highlanders’ principal sponsor, energy company Sakunda Holdings has offered a 250 percent bonus to the team and administrative staff.
This was revealed by the company’s projects manager Nqobile Magwizi at a dinner held at a local hotel on Sunday evening.
Speaking on behalf of Sakunda proprietor Kuda Tagwirei, Magwizi said Bosso deserves to celebrate turning around their season which started badly but improved gradually culminating in the club finishing the season in position five. Said Magwizi:

A player from the Highlanders development side, Bosso90 died on Tuesday morning at Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo.
The <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/bosso90-player-tragically-passes-away/">Chronicle</a> reported sources as saying the footballer was pushed off a moving truck.
The deceased Bosso90 player is Caesar Dube and is the son of Siza Dube.

Highlanders on Friday ended a four-year wait, spanning 32 matches, for a league win away from home, after beating Yadah win 3-2 at National Sports Stadium in Harare.
This is a second consecutive away win for Highlanders after they beat Triangle United in the Chibuku Super Cup first-round at Gibbo Stadium about two weeks ago.
The last time that Bosso won in the Premier Soccer League away from home was at Gibbo Stadium in a 1-0 win over Triangle in July 2018.
Highlanders almost squandered their chance to break the jinx after leading 3-0, only to allow the Miracle Boys to score twice.
A Ray Lunga header made it 1-0 for Bosso after 10 minutes when Washington Navaya delivered a threatening ball into the penalty box which Yadah failed to clear.
Navaya made it 2-0 for Highlanders 15 minutes later when tapped in a cross from Lynoth Chikuhwa into the box.
Bosso made it 3-0 in the 50th minute when Chikuhwa turned from provider to scorer.
Innocent Musiwa pulled one back for Yadah in the 82nd minute and the Miracle Boys scored the second goal in the 85th minute.
Speaking after the match, assistant coach Joel Luphahla said he was happy to finally break the 32-match jinx. He said:

Highlanders Win Away From Home After Four-year Wait

Highlanders on Friday promoted 16-year-old Prince Ndlovu from the club’s developmental side, Bosso90, to the first team.
Prince became the youngest player in the club’s history to be promoted to the first team at the age of 16 years, 170 days.
He broke the record that had been held by legendary former Warriors captain, Peter Ndlovu, who broke into the first team at the age of 16 years, 178 days, 33 years ago.
Highlanders announced Prince’s promotion via their official social media sites on Friday. The club said:

Highlanders Football Club says it is seeking donations to buy laptops for its officials in order to comply with FIFA club licensing requirements.
In a statement issued this Wednesday, Highlanders said it intends to equip all of the club’s offices with sufficient tools to perform their duties effectively. The statement reads as follows:

Highlanders FC has noted public reactions to the circulating letter released by the club seeking a donation of a laptop for the office of the CEO from a specific group of members.
For a record, as the Highlanders seek to comply with FIFA club licensing requirements, the club is embarking on a modernization drive which involves equipping staff members with sufficient tools to perform their duties effectively.
Highlanders seek to achieve this through approaching different corporates and its members, who are the owners of this great club.

Highlanders Football Club is appealing for funds to purchase a laptop for its chief executive officer (CEO) Ronald Moyo.
The appeal was made through a letter written by the club’s secretary Morgan Dube, dated 5 July 2022, and addressed to diaspora Highlanders members. It reads:

Given our current financial predicament, we are unable to raise enough funds to buy the laptop.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has fined Highlanders and Dynamos over the abandonment of a league match at Barbourfields Stadium (BF) on Sunday 15 May 2022. The match was abandoned due to crowd trouble.
The PSL Disciplinary Committee found both Highlanders and Dynamos guilty of breaching PSL Rules and Regulations.
Highlanders was fined US$5 000 while Dynamos was ordered to pay US$7 500.
Additionally, the PSL awarded the match to Highlanders on a three-nil score line. A statement issued by PSL on 23 June 2022 reads:

The Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee has released the judgement in the matter involving Highlanders FC and Dynamos FC following incidents of violence and hooliganism that took place at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday 15 May 2022.

PSL Fines Highlanders, Dynamos For BF Crowd Trouble

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has fined Highlanders US$6 000 for the violence and hooliganism which marred their match with FC Platinum at Mandava Stadium on 23 April.
The match was awarded to the defending champions on a 3-0 score, the PSL announced on Wednesday. The PSL said:

The Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee has released the judgement in the matter involving Highlanders FC following acts of crowd trouble that took place at Mandava Stadium on Saturday 23 April 2022.
The club was found guilty of violating PSL Rules and Regulations and fined a sum of USD 6000-00 (Six Thousand Dollars).
The fine together with the costs of the hearing is to be paid within 15 days from the date of the judgment.
Further, the match has been forfeited and awarded to FC Platinum on a 3 nil score line.

The two teams were level 1-1 when FC Platinum was awarded a penalty by referee Kuzivamwari Jaravaza.
Jaravaza ruled that Highlanders defender Peter Muduhwa had fouled FC Platinum forward Walter Musona inside the penalty box with a few minutes remaining on the clock.
However, Highlanders players and officials contested the decision, arguing that the coming together of the two players had occurred outside the box and therefore merited a free-kick and not a spot-kick.
Highlanders supporters then invaded the pitch in protest, forcing the match officials to abandon the match.
FC Platinum who have been tied on 31 points with Dynamos before the ruling, moved to second in the Premier League with 34 points from 17 matches, one point behind leaders Chicken Inn.
Meanwhile, Highlanders remain in 10th position from 16 matches after amassing 20 points.

Highlanders Fined US$6 000 For Mandava Stadium Violence

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has summoned Dynamos and Highlanders to appear before the PSL Disciplinary Committee following the abandonment of their match due to crowd trouble.
The PSL match between the two clubs played at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday 15 May 2022 was abandoned after acts of violence and hooliganism by fans from both clubs.
PSL has charged Dynamos for breaching Order 31 of the PSL Rules and Regulations which makes it an act of misconduct on the part of the club. These are the allegations:

<li>Throwing or attempting to throw missiles, bottled and other objects, whether potentially harmful or dangerous or not, onto the pitch, or at any person;</li>
<li>Maliciously damaging or attempting to damage any property on the ground;</li>
<li>Its officials, players, servants or duly authorized (express or implied) representatives assault, threaten, intimidate, coerce, interfere, mislead or insult a match official, player, official of the League, public, press or media, or any other person, before, during or after any match.</li>
<li>Its players, officials, servants or duly authorized (expressed or implied) representatives or supporters directly or indirectly interrupt, obstruct or disturb the normal proceedings of a game before, during or after the match;</li>

PSL has charged Highlanders for breaching the PSL Rules and Regulations as follows:

Dynamos, Highlanders To Appear Before PSL Disciplinary Committee On 8 June Over Abandoned Match

Sakunda Holdings, Dynamos and Highlanders’ principal sponsors, are reported to be unhappy with the decisions made by the clubs regarding their coaches.
Last week, Highlanders fired coach Mandla Mpofu citing poor results and a few days later, Dynamos suspended coach Tonderai Ndiraya for alleged insubordination and arrogance.
Dynamos, however, did not explain why they suspended Ndiraya but the move angered the club’s fans.
NewsDay Sport reported a Sakunda Holdings source as saying the company is worried about the axing of the coaches. Said the source:

As sponsors, we are obviously worried when such things happen because it tends to destabilise things at the club, and our brand will naturally be dragged into the mess.
Obviously, there is nothing much we can do as sponsors, but we feel that whatever is happening (at Dynamos) could have been handled better.

Speaking at a kit unveiling ceremony for the two clubs in Harare early this year, Sakunda Holdings chief executive Kudakwashe Tagwirei, urged Dynamos and Highlanders to be patient with the coaches. Tagwirei said:

Being successful is always a journey. It is not something that starts today and tomorrow you become successful.
It (success) takes some time and a lot of work. When we were looking at the results at the beginning of the year, we were all worried that things were not going to be as good as they should be.
For me, I was not so much worried about the results as most people were. I was worried about consistency in whatever we do.
I want to encourage all of us to be patient with the coaches, and with the players. Allow them to acclimatise to their newness.
It will take time, and when they get into that place, they are going to succeed. As Sakunda, we are not associated with failure, and you are going to see that.

Sakunda Concerned Over DeMbare, Bosso "Mess"

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) deliberately avoided using force to quell crowd trouble during the Highlanders versus Dynamos Premier Soccer League (PSL) match at Barboufields Stadium on Sunday to prevent injuries and possible loss of life.
Some football commentators had queried why there was not a single hooligan who was charged from both sets of Dynamos and Highlanders fans who invaded the pitch, forcing the match commissioner to call off the match in the 90th minute.
Bosso fans invaded the pitch in celebration of their team’s goal while DeMbare fans swarmed the field of play protesting what they considered unfair refereeing.
ZRP spokesperson in Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed to B-Metro that no fans were arrested for the Barbourfields Stadium violence.
A senior police officer who spoke to the publication on condition of anonymity said that the officers on the day acted accordingly by avoiding confrontations with the marauding crowd as this could have resulted in the loss of life. Said the official:

Crowd control doesn’t always mean that the police have to engage in running battles with the people that are causing trouble.
The officers obviously assessed the situation and decided that the use of force was not the best option in the interests of protecting lives and property.
The situation simmered down eventually and no one was injured as far as we know.

In the aftermath of the pitch invasion by fans, the PSL suspended all matches to allow stakeholders time to find lasting solutions to violence and hooliganism in local football.
Both Dynamos and Highlanders, as well as the police, have been asked to submit reports on what transpired on that day.

Highlanders defender Andrew Tandi suffered a fibula fracture from a crude tackle by Dynamos winger Bill Antonio during a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.
In an update, Highlanders confirmed the diagnosis and added that Tandi is currently under specialist care. Bosso said:

Andrew Tandi Injury: Update The X-ray has confirmed a fibula fracture, and he is currently under specialist care. We wish him a speedy recovery.

The fracture may cause the bone to break into two pieces or several smaller pieces.
Meanwhile, Antonio has issued a public apology to Tandi and wished him a speedy recovery.

Highlanders Defender Suffers A Fibula Fracture

Dynamos players have been blamed for inciting the violence that forced their Premier Soccer League match against Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium to be abandoned before the fulltime on Sunday.
The high stakes match was disrupted by crowd trouble on two separate occasions in the second half.
The first lengthy stoppage, which lasted for 15 minutes, occurred in the 60th minute when Dynamos striker Bill Antonio’s challenge left Andrew Tandi with a broken leg.
Despite Antonio being shown a straight red card, players and officials from both sides clashed following the tackle.
The second stoppage occurred when Highlanders took the lead in the 93rd minute through Washington Navaya’s header.
Bosso fans stormed the pitch to celebrate the goal while Dynamos players surrounded the referee, protesting his decision to allow the goal.
Dynamos players were arguing that Shadreck Nyahwa and goalkeeper Timon Mvula were fouled during the build-up to the goal.
As the melee unfolded on the pitch, DeMbare fans invaded the pitch, uprooting the goalposts and tearing the nets.
Speaking during ZTN’s coverage of the game, former CAPS United captain David Sengu blamed Dynamos players for causing the chaos. Said Sengu:

They were playing entertaining football, but the fans will make the headlines more than the players on the pitch at the end of the day.
The players are to blame for these incidents because they are the ones who are causing the chaos.

If there is no whistle blown, continue to play football.

Sengu added that both Nyahwa and Dynamos goalkeeper Taimon Mvula were wrong to claim they were injured in the build-up to the Highlanders goal. He said:

The goalkeeper has the advantage of using his hands. Mvula never tried to catch the ball because he wanted a foul.
Why did Nyahwa remain on the floor (after losing the ball) when the referee didn’t blow his whistle?
When Highlanders scored their goal, he quickly rose and protested to the referee.
I thought he should have stood up, continued playing, and do the confrontation later.
Captain Jaure is the one who should talk to the referee, not any other players, but you can’t complain about every decision made.

Bosso hosts DeMbare at Barbourfields Stadium today, with Mpofu of the belief that victory for Highlanders will be a turning point this season. Said Mpofu:

Highlanders have changed coaches 10 times since 2012 but have failed to win the premier league title since 2006.

Highlanders Football Club has implored its fans to distance themselves from a few individuals who incite violence at matches.
This comes after the Premier Soccer League (PSL) summoned the club to appear before the PSL Disciplinary Committee following violence that rocked the match between FC Platinum and Highlanders on 23 April this year.
A statement released by the club on Tuesday, 10 May, ahead of a PSL match against Dynamos, read:

The Highlanders Leadership would like to invite all its facets of fans to come in numbers with their families, friends and associates to support and encourage their team to complete a double within a month over our fiercest competitor in National Football, Dynamos FC.
This is also a passionate plea to our fans to be hospitable to our visitors and ourselves in hosting them in and outside the Stadium and Bulawayo City in general.
Passion, respect and love are the cornerstone of our 96 years of existence and should be cherished and remembered this Sunday as we host Dynamos in our first leg of the League season 2022.
We note with concern a few individuals purporting to be Football Fans inciting violence in the name of Highlanders a practice clearly not synonymous with our Culture.
This should be condemned with the contempt it deserves and urges all Highlanders and Football fraternity to identify and eliminate such minds from near our Club.
Meanwhile, The Highlanders Executive is seized with finding an immediate but lasting solution to the bad patch that the Team is going through.

Highlanders Urges Fans To Desist From Football Hooliganism

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has summoned Highlanders to appear before the PSL Disciplinary Committee following acts of crowd trouble that took place at Mandava Stadium on Saturday 23 April this year.
A PSL match between FC Platinum and Highlanders was abandoned in the 82nd minute due to crowd trouble.
Highlanders fans stormed the pitch and confronted the referee after he had awarded FC Platinum a penalty with the scoreline 1-1.
In a statement on Monday evening, the PSL said that Highlanders is being charged for breaching the PSL rules and regulations. Part of the statement read:

In terms of Order 31 of the PSL Rules and Regulations, it is an act of misconduct on the part of the club where; 
31.1.13 Its supporters misbehave in any manner whatsoever, inside or outside a ground before, during and after a match, no matter on which ground the match is played.
Without derogating from the generality of what constitutes misbehaviour on the part of supporters, the following are specifically declared to be acts of misbehaviour:-
31.1.13.1 Invasion or attempted invasion of the field of play, save for reasons of crowd safety.
31.1.13.2 Causing the abandonment or attempting to cause abandonment of a match
31.1.13.3 Throwing or attempting to throw missiles, bottles, and other objects, whether potentially harmful or dangerous or not, onto the pitch, or at any person. 
31.1.13.8 Maliciously damaging or attempting to damage any property on the ground
The disciplinary proceedings shall take place on Tuesday 10 May 2022 at the PSL offices.

Highlanders To Appear Before PSL Disciplinary Committee

This is part of a report by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Zvishavane District on the violence that disrupted a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match between FC Platinum and Highlanders at Mandava Stadium on Saturday, 23 April.
<h2>POLICE REPORT: BOSSO FANS ON RAMPAGE DESTROYING PROPERTY IN ZVISHAVANE</h2>
<h2>CIRCUMSTANCES-</h2>

On the 23rd day of April 2022 and at Mandava Stadium, Zvishavane, FC Platinum Football Club hosted Highlanders Football club in a Premier League Soccer Match.
The match started at 1500 hours and about 1 200 fans were in attendance. Members from DUB, SU, CID and Canine were on deployment under Zvishavane DHQ Operation Order Number 13/22.
In the 81st minute, FC Platinum was awarded a penalty and Highlanders players led by Peter Muduwa shirt number 21 disputed the decision.
Supporters on the Eastern stand who were predominantly in black and white regalia and supporting Highlanders reacted to the penalty decision by throwing missiles in the form of water bottles and stones into the pitch toward players, match officials and the police that had formed a barricade forcing the match officials to stop the match.
The rowdy supporters moved in, scaled the perimeter fence and charged toward the police who retreated to allow the Highlanders captain, Highlanders marshals and the police command to intervene with dialogue. The mediation took about 20 minutes.
As the Highlanders captain Ariel Sibanda, marshals and the police were engaging with the Highlanders supporters to calm down, the Highlanders Team manager Vezigama Dlodlo [NFPK] withdrew the captain and when the players were about to resume playing, the Highlanders supporters became more provoked and the situation degenerated into violence.
The Highlanders supporters intensified throwing missiles, invaded the pitch and tore advertisement billboards.
They also started throwing missiles at FC Platinum supporters on the western grandstand. 
One Police Dog Ceaser, number PD1215 on deployment from Gweru Canine was struck by a stone. The Police Dog sustained minor injuries and is limping. 
FC platinum team bus, Scania, green in colour registration mark FC Plats was struck with a stone on its right side window panel. It was parked behind the VIP grandstand.
The bus sustained a shattered right side window panel consisting of a large hole in the middle of the panel. ZRP Zvishavane RRB number 5068641 refers.
Upon realising that the situation was getting out of hand, police created escape routes on the eastern, western and main gates and repelled the advancing mob with tear smoke after dialogue had failed and the threat was increasing. 
After having been driven out of the stadium, the Highlanders supporters went on terrorising motorists from the stadium up to the CBD.
In the CBD, a Blue Horizon bus registration number AEG 1054 being driven by Christopher Mutupo a male aged 42 years Nr 83-098612C-83 of 6256 Chikanga township, Mutare and plying the Bulawayo-Chiredzi route was struck by a stone seemingly by the Highlanders supporters heading towards Bulawayo.
The bus sustained a shattered right side window panel. Value damaged to be established. ZRP Zvishavane RRB number 5068639 refers.
No causalities were recorded as the mob was repelled by Police with tear smoke.
A total of 15 accused persons were arrested and detained for “disorderly conduct as defined in section 41 of the Criminal law [Codification and Reform] Chapter 9.23. ZRP Zvishavane 1049/22-1063/22 refers. See Annexture “A” attached.
Investigations are in progress.
