The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has issued a weather warning, forecasting heavy rainfall (over 50mm) in certain areas, along with lightning and strong winds (wind gusts).
In an advisory released on Friday, 7 February 2025, the MSD, in conjunction with the Department of Civil Protection, said that the heavy rainfall is expected to affect Manicaland, Masvingo, Midlands, and Matabeleland South provinces from Saturday, 8 February 2025 to Tuesday, 11 February 2025. The advisory reads in part:

A low-pressure system currently over the Mozambique Channel is intensifying and moving westwards from the Mozambique Channel towards the Mozambique coast. This should continue westward across the eastern and southern parts of Zimbabwe.
Thus, thunderstorms and rain are expected over Mashonaland East, Manicaland, and Masvingo on Saturday, the 8th of February 2025, and in Manicaland, Mashonaland East, Masvingo, Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan and the Midlands Provinces from Sunday, the 9th of February 2025, until Tuesday, the 11th of February 2025.
Hailstorms accompanied by strong winds and cold conditions, are highly probable. Due to the intensity of the rainfall during this period, flash floods are highly likely.

The public has been urged to stay alert for heavy rainfall and the possibility of flash flooding, especially in flood-prone areas, river basins, and wetlands.
Provinces including Mashonaland East, Manicaland, Masvingo, Southern Midlands, Bulawayo Metropolitan, and Matabeleland North and South are expected to experience these conditions, along with strong winds, fallen trees, lightning, and hailstorms nationwide.
In preparation for storms, the public is advised to take the following precautions:

<li>Trim any loose branches or debris</li>

In a weather advisory issued on Friday evening, the MSD said that Bulawayo Metropolitan, Midlands, Masvingo, Matabeleland North, and Matabeleland South provinces will experience a decrease in rainfall until the end of the month. The Met Department said:

In an advisory issued over the weekend, the MSD predicted that heavy downpours exceeding 50 millimetres (mm) within 24 hours are expected across the country. The advisory noted:

Matabeleland North, northern areas of Midlands, Harare Metropolitan, northern parts of Manicaland, and all Mashonaland Provinces are expected to receive scattered thundershowers from 5–8 January 2025.

The MSD said that additional moisture from the southeast coast of Southern Africa on Wednesday evening would result in cloudy, windy, and cold conditions over Matabeleland South, Masvingo, and Manicaland Provinces. The MSD added:

Violent storms could lead to falling trees, blown-off rooftops, and collapsing billboards due to strong winds.

In an advisory, the MSD said that Severe Tropical Storm Chido, which hasn’t gained enough strength to be classified as a Tropical Cyclone, is currently more than 3,000 kilometres away from Zimbabwe. The MSD said:

The third tropical system of the 2024/2025 cyclone season (Severe Tropical Storm Chido) has developed in the Indian Ocean and is travelling Westwards at a speed of 13km/h towards Madagascar where it is expected to arrive on the 13th of December 2024.
The system has not yet reached the cyclone stage but it is strengthening. It is expected to reach Mozambique on the 17th of December if it maintains its trajectory. The MSD will continue to monitor its progress and update the nation accordingly.

According to a report by <a href="https://crisis24.garda.com/alerts/2024/12/indian-ocean-tropical-cyclone-chido-tracking-westward-toward-agalega-mauritius-dec-11-update-2">Crisis24</a>, Chido is tracking westward across the Indian Ocean toward Agalega, Mauritius, on December 11. As of 11 AM CAT, the system was around 1,072 km north of Port Louis, Mauritius. The report reads in part:

Forecast models indicate that the storm will strengthen as it continues westward and passes just south of Agalega, Mauritius, late Dec. 11.
Chido is expected to briefly strengthen into an intense tropical cyclone as it tracks westward and then west-southwestward away from Agalega on Dec. 12, before weakening back into a tropical cyclone and making landfall over the northern Diana Region in Madagascar late Dec. 13-early Dec. 14.
The system is likely to weaken into a severe tropical storm as it tracks southwestward across the Mozambique Channel Dec. 14-15, passing south of Mayotte late Dec. 14 or early Dec. 15.
The storm will continue to weaken before making another landfall over Nampula Province in Mozambique late Dec. 15 or early Dec. 16.
After landfall, Chido is expected to weaken rapidly into a zone of disturbed weather and dissipate as it tracks southwestward inland over southern Nampula during the morning of Dec. 16.
Some uncertainty remains in the track and intensity forecast; changes could occur in the coming hours and days.

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has urged the public to be on high alert when the current dry spell ends and rainfall activity resumes, with forecasts indicating possible hailstorms and heavy winds.
In an interview with <a href="https://www.zbcnews.co.zw/rains-to-return-in-a-week-met-dept/">ZBC News</a>, Meteorologist Baba Maketa advised farmers to make use of the dry spell for tasks such as weeding and other farming operations, as normal to above-normal rains are expected from this month through February next year.
Maketa said that although a dry spell is anticipated over the next seven days, farmers should continue their activities as the overall season remains favourable for agricultural operations. He said:

Our season as per our advisory is still fine, nothing has changed. From December up to February next year, we still forecast normal to above rainfall, but as the rains come back it will likely be associated with thunderstorms and heavy downpours hence people should be on high alert.

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has issued a warning about a dry and hot spell set to affect most parts of Zimbabwe starting tomorrow, Saturday, November 30.
In a weather advisory issued on Thursday, November 29, the MSD said the dry conditions are expected to last until December 11, 2024, leading to a reduction in rainfall across the country.
The Met Department said the relatively dry and hot conditions are a result of a cool, moist south-easterly airflow entering the region this Friday.
Despite the dry conditions, light rain and drizzle are expected in Matabeleland South and Masvingo provinces on Friday. The MSD said:

Starting Friday, November 29, 2024, a cool moist southeasterly airflow should reduce the occurrence of thunderstorm activities.
However, light rain and drizzle should be experienced in Matabeleland South and Masvingo Provinces on Saturday, November 30.
From Sunday, December 1, until the end of the watch validity period, generally mostly sunny and hot conditions are expected across the country though very isolated cloudy and light showers can not be ruled out.

In a weather advisory issued on Sunday, 10 November, the MSD warned that heavy rainfall, exceeding 50mm, is expected in the southern parts of Mashonaland West, Mashonaland East, and Harare Metropolitan Provinces on Wednesday. Said the MSD:

A cloud band entered the country from the west on Sunday the 10th of November 2024 bringing moisture over all Matabeleland and Bulawayo Metropolitan provinces.
On Monday evening, 11 November more moisture should be driven in from the South-East coast of Southern Africa.
This should result in more rainfall in Matabeleland South, Masvingo and Manicaland Provinces on Tuesday 12 November 2024.
By Wednesday 13 November, the rain-showers should be heavier in the southern parts of Mashonaland West, Mashonaland East and Harare Metropolitan Provinces; with some of the rainfall being in excess of 50mm in 24 hours from Tuesday 12 to Thursday 14 November 2024.

In a weather advisory issued on October 11, the MSD warned that the southern parts of the country—specifically Masvingo, Manicaland, Matabeleland South, and the southern areas of the Midlands provinces—should expect cloudy, cold, and drizzly conditions starting Tuesday evening and continuing until Thursday morning. Said the MSD:

Moisture is expected to drift into the northern parts of the country namely Matabeleland North, Mashonaland West and Mashonaland Central provinces early on Sunday morning, 13 October 2024.
This should quickly spread into the northern Midlands, Harare Metropolitan and all Mashonaland provinces and intensify slightly, on Tuesday 15 October 2024, resulting in isolated light showers coupled with lightning and thunder and windy.
Anticipate a significant strengthening of relatively cool winds, from the south-east coast of Southern Africa, on Tuesday evening.
This should steer a cool and moist southeasterly airflow into Zimbabwe resulting in cloudy, windy and cool weather over Matabeleland South, Masvingo and Manicaland provinces as well as southern part of the Midlands on Wednesday 16 October 2024. Light rain and drizzle is probable in (some) places.

Meanwhile, Civil Protection Unit director Nathan Nkomo said that a disaster contingency plan for the 2024/25 rainy season is already established.
He stated that a two-day planning meeting with over 70 participants from various sectors reviewed the current contingency based on SADC regional weather projections and MSD data. They are now prepared to implement the plan when the rains arrive.

The weather forecast said that the northern regions will have thunderstorms from Sunday to Wednesday. The southern regions will be cloudy, cold, and drizzly from Tuesday to Thursday. The winds will get stronger in the south, bringing cool weather. The Civil Protection Unit is ready for the rainy season with a contingency plan based on weather predictions. Over 70 people from different sectors met for two days to review the plan and prepare for when the rains come.

Met Department Forecasts Thunderstorms In Northern Regions, Drizzly Conditions For Southern Regions

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has forecast a decrease in daytime temperatures across Matabeleland South, Masvingo, Manicaland, and the southern parts of Midlands Province from Monday, September 30, to Thursday, October 3.
In a weather advisory issued on Friday morning in collaboration with the Department of Civil Protection, the MSD indicated that maximum temperatures are expected to remain below 19°C.
During this period, the southern Midlands, Matabeleland South, Masvingo, and Manicaland provinces are anticipated to experience windy, cool, cloudy, and drizzly conditions from September 30 to October 2.
Starting Thursday, October 3, the weather is expected to become less cloudy and warmer. Said the MSD:

A significant strengthening of relatively cool winds, from the south-east coast of Southern Africa, is expected on Monday evening 30 September 2024. 
This should steer a cool and moist southeasterly airflow into Zimbabwe on Tuesday 01 October 2024, resulting in cloudy, windy and cool weather over Matabeleland South, Masvingo and Manicaland Provinces as well as southern part of the Midlands on Tuesday 01 and Wednesday 02 October 2024. Light rain and drizzle is probable in places.
Anticipate scattered clouds and mild conditions to drift into Bulawayo Metropolitan, southern parts of Matabeleland North and Midlands as well as both Harare and Mashonaland East Provinces on Wednesday 02 October 2024.
It will only become warmer from Thursday 03 October 2024 as the clouds break.

Met Department Predicts Temperature Drop Across Southern Zimbabwe

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has forecasted reduced daytime temperatures in most parts of the country from Sunday, 23 June, to Friday, 28 June 2024.
In a weather alert released on 22 June in conjunction with the Department of Civil Protection, the Met Department said areas that will be affected by the relatively cold afternoons include Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Midlands, Masvingo, Manicaland, Mashonaland East and Harare Metropolitan provinces.
Subdued daytime temperatures, cloudy, windy and cold weather conditions, as well as drizzle in some places, are expected during the period.
According to the MSD, these weather conditions are attributable to a cold and moist south-easterly airflow sweeping across the country.
During the period, the public has been advised to stay warm and wear appropriate clothes and where there is a need to use a brazier (mbaura/imbawula) or fire to keep warm, rooms should be well-ventilated to prevent carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Reads the alert:

Chances of catching a cough, influenza, or a cold, increase during this winter period. Please consult your health practitioner for any health-related ailments.
</blockquote>
Carbon monoxide poisoning occurs when there is an excessive buildup of this gas in the blood. It is caused by incomplete combustion of fuels like firewood and charcoal and symptoms include headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, confusion, drowsiness, fatigue, chest pain, shortness of breath, and loss of consciousness.

Met Department Forecasts Low Daytime Temperatures Up To 28 June

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has forecasted the current cold spell to persist until Wednesday when temperatures are expected to rise slightly as clouds break up.
The maximum temperatures are forecast to be below 20 degrees Celsius and minimums to fall as low as 3 degrees Celsius in the early morning.
Cold temperatures were felt on Friday in parts of Matabeleland South, Masvingo Province and Manicaland in south-east Zimbabwe.
South-easterly winds will extend the cold and cloudy conditions to Bulawayo and Harare Metropolitan, along with southern Midlands and Matabeleland North and Mashonaland East by Sunday.
According to the MSD, Matabeleland South, Masvingo, and Manicaland provinces were expected to experience cloudy, windy, and cold conditions for most of today, with a chance of light rain and drizzle in some areas.
In a notice on Friday, the Met Department said that a significant rise in wind pressure was expected over the southeast coast of Southern Africa.
This was expected to drive a cold and moist south-easterly airflow into Zimbabwe. It said:

Before the clouds set in, anticipate a cold and relatively dry southerly airflow on Friday with moderate ground frost and early morning temperatures below 3 deg Celsius in frost-prone areas such as Matopos, Gweru, Lupane, Masvingo, Marondera and Nyanga.

The MSD said from this Saturday, the weather should become cloudy, windy and cold over Matabeleland South, Masvingo and Manicaland Provinces for much of the day with light rain and drizzle in some places. It said:

These conditions should extend into Bulawayo Metropolitan, southern parts of Matabeleland North and Midlands, as well as both Harare and Mashonaland East Provinces on Sunday and only become slightly warmer on Wednesday as the clouds break.

The MSD warned members of the public that chances of getting a cough, influenza or a cold increase during this transition period towards winter, hence people should dress warmly and ensure that vulnerable members of society are kept warm both early morning and late evening.

Met Department Forecasts Chilly Weather, Cold Spell Expected To Linger Until Midweek

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has said Tropical Storm Filipo which is currently on the south-east coast of Mozambique will not cause any damage in Zimbabwe as it is expected to only bring some winds and moderate rain.
In a statement, MSD head of forecasting James Ngoma said the public should not panic. He said:

Tropical Storm Filipo will not affect Zimbabwe much. More information is in the weather report and forecast but do not panic, Zimbabwe is safe.

In a weather update on Tuesday, 12 March, the MSD said Tropical Storm Filipo brought rainfall amounts of less than 15mm in some parts of the country. The MSD said:

Tropical Storm Filipo made landfall over Mozambique in the early hours of this morning. The highest was 62mm in Beira, Mozambique while Massangena, more inland Mozambique, received 33mm, as Filipo lost strength and headed further southward.
In Zimbabwe, the rainfall due to Filipo was below 15mm [14mm (Chipinge) and 11mm (Mukandi)] in the East Highlands, with windy and cloudy conditions in Manicaland and Masvingo.
Meanwhile, Filipo is also drawing moisture into the country from the north, this resulted in isolated thunderstorms in the Mashonaland Provinces with the highest recorded in these provinces being in Kotwa with 29mm and 12mm in Dotito.

MSD Weather Report And Forecast: 06 To 08 March 2024

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has forecasted a heatwave from today until 12 March, with temperatures expected to rise as high as 41 degrees, although some isolated thundershowers are expected this week.
A heatwave is when the maximum and minimum temperatures are unusually hot over 3 days.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, 05 March, MSD urged people to stay hydrated as the heatwave could cause health-related complications, including sudden death for vulnerable citizens. The Met Department said (via <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/victoria-falls-airport-tightens-security/">Chronicle</a>):

These extremely hot conditions are caused by a combination of factors, such as the persistent northerly air mass or wind flow that originates from the low-pressure system at the surface of the atmosphere and a high-pressure system at upper levels with a strong subsiding motion that prevents the heat energy from escaping into the outer atmosphere.
In addition to these uncomfortably and unbearably hot conditions, thundershowers are expected to occur over some areas of the country.

The Department advised people to drink more water or any hydrating fluids, avoid prolonged stays under the sun, stay in the shade and wear wide-brimmed hats or use umbrellas.

Met Department Warns Of Heatwave

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has forecasted heavy rains across much of the country from 11 January to 17 January.
In a weather alert issued on Wednesday, 10 January, the MSD warned of heavy rains above 50mm along the main watershed.
It said the heavy rainfall is caused by the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone combined with a cloud band coming from the western parts of the country. Read the forecast:

The Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), which has been active over the northern parts of the country is expected to combine with a cloud band, which is moving from the west to the east covering the whole country.
As a result, the combined effect of the two should result in precipitation amounts over 50mm in areas along the main watershed.

Rain above 50mm is expected in Bulawayo, plus Matobo, Umzingwane, Insiza, and parts of Mangwe in Matabeleland South and Umguza and Bubi in Matabeleland North.
Zvishavane, Shurugwi, Kwekwe, Kadoma, Chirumhanzu and Mberengwa in Midlands and Chivi, and Gutu in Masvingo are also expected to receive rainfall exceeding 50mm.
In the north, the 50mm rainfall is likely in Harare Metropolitan, Chegutu, Zvimba, Bindura, Shamva, and Uzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe in Mashonaland West and Chikomba, Seke, Wedza, Marondera, Murehwa and Mutoko in Mashonaland East.
The rest of the country, although expected to receive heavy rains, will likely record below 50mm.
The MSD has warned the public that lightning and hailstorms are probable in some places.
Members of the public have been advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms unless it is an emergency, and also not to attempt to cross flooded rivers on foot or in vehicles.

Met Department Issues Heavy Rains Warning

The Civil Protection Unit (CPU) has urged communities in flood-prone areas to be on high alert as heavy rains coupled with hailstorms are expected throughout the country until 30 December 2023.
In a recent statement, the Meteorological Service Department (MSD) said heavy rains are expected in the northern parts of Manicaland, Mashonaland East, Mashonaland Central and Harare, before spreading across the country by Saturday.
The Met Department warned that low-lying areas such as Muzarabani and the Zambezi Valley among other areas were at a high risk of flooding.
According to the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/flood-prone-areas-on-high-alert-as-heavy-storms-forecast/">Chronicle</a>, in the Matabeleland region, Tsholotsho and Binga have pockets that are always susceptible to flooding, while in Bulawayo, areas that include parts of Nkulumane, Nketa and Cowdray Park suburbs often experience flooding during heavy storms.
The MSD said an anticipated cloud band that would bring along heavy rains landed in the country yesterday and the Matabeleland region received the heavier rains. It said:

The much-anticipated cloud band has fallen into Zimbabwe and this morning the western half of the country recorded some significant falls. The highest measured amounts of rainfall were at; Bulawayo Goetz Observatory 31mm, Binga 21mm, Lupane 15mm, Victoria Falls 14mm, Kariba 13mm and Joshua Nkomo International Airport 10mm. Meanwhile, the cloud band is sweeping across the country from the West to the East.
The western parts of the country should be affected first then by 30 December the whole country should have been affected. Localised heavy downpours with rainfall above 50mm in 24 hours are anticipated in some places with strong winds, lightning and hailstorms.
All areas are expected to receive localised rainfall amounts of 50mm or more in 24 hours and flooding is probable in low-lying areas such as the Muzarabani, Save, and Zambezi valley.

The MSD warned members of the public against crossing flooded rivers, saying people can be swept away by water above their ankles while a 30cm depth of flowing water can even sweep away large vehicles.
The MSD also urged the public to avoid being in fields, hilltops, tall trees, and bodies of water and remain indoors during thunderstorms to avoid being struck by lightning.
Meanwhile, the CPU, which deals with natural disasters in the country, said it has activated all its sub-national structures to deal with rain-related eventualities. CPU director Nathan Nkomo said:

As per our tradition, we have activated all our sub-national structures and we have done our educational awareness campaigns. We usually say if you see your programme being adopted by traditional leaders then you would be satisfied.
So we have communicated with the traditional leaders’ structures on issues governing disasters.
We might not have given them adequate resources but it is very very critical information spreads in communities.
It is our motto that disaster prevention begins with information and we have spread the information.

Flood-prone Areas On High Alert As Met Office Forecasts Heavy Downpours

Daytime temperatures are expected to drop on Thursday and Friday as cloudy, windy, and cold conditions drift into the country through the south-eastern border, the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) said on Wednesday afternoon.
Very cold, windy, and cloudy conditions are forecasted for Masvingo, Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Midlands, Manicaland, Harare Metropolitan, southern areas of Mashonaland East and Matabeleland North provinces, with minimum temperatures plummeting to as low as 3 degrees celsius in places.
Light rain and drizzle, strong and chilling winds as well as ground frost are also expected in isolated areas mostly on Thursday, according to the Met Department. The MSD said:

Advection of very cold and relatively moist into Zimbabwe from the southeast coast of Southern Africa should cause a decline in daytime temperatures in the southern and eastern parts of the country. [NB: winds from the southern regions of the Indian Ocean are relatively cooler since they emanate from areas near the south pole].
The peak of these winds is on Thursday evening, 20 July, thus the cloudy. windy and drizzly conditions reach their furthest north points during this period overnight and recede by Friday, evening 21 July 2023, giving rise to a warmer weekend.

Meanwhile, the Department of Civil Protection has advised the public to ensure that the elderly, persons with disabilities, young and ill are kept warm.

Met Department Forecasts Light Rain, Strong And Chilling Winds

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has forecasted ground frost in most parts of the country from Saturday to Tuesday next week.
In a weather advisory issued at 12 PM this Friday, 14 July, the Met Department identified Matabeleland South, Bulawayo, Matabeleland North, Midlands, Northern Masvingo, Harare, Manicaland, Mashonaland East, Southern Mashonaland West and Central Provinces as frost-prone areas.
Moderate ground frost is forecasted for Saturday, while severe ground frost is expected from Sunday to Tuesday.
MSD has advised the public to watch out for freezing (sub-zero) ground temperatures and very cold overnight and early morning conditions.

Freezing Temperatures Forecasted From Sunday

The cold spell currently prevailing across the country has pushed minimum temperatures below zero degrees Celsius in some parts of the country.
According to the Meteorological Department (MSD), on Wednesday, 12 July, ground frost was recorded in areas such as Henderson (-2°C), Lupane (-1°C), Mutoko (2°C) and Nyanga (2°C).
The Met Department said it was cloudy, drizzly, and cold in the morning in areas such as Bulawayo Metropolitan, Matabeleland South, Masvingo, Manicaland and southern parts of Midlands (Gweru to Mberengwa).
All other areas (Matabeleland North, northern areas of Midlands, Harare Metropolitan and all Mashonaland Province) had mostly clear skies.
For Thursday, 13 July, MSD has forecasted brief cloudy and cold morning conditions for the northern half of the country, while parts of Masvingo, Mash West, and Mat North will experience very cold conditions. MSD said:

[Tomorrow] it is expected that areas along the Highveld (Bulawayo Metropolitan, central areas of the Midlands, Harare Metropolitan, Manicaland, southern districts of Mashonaland East, northern areas of Masvingo and Matabeleland Provinces) will experience brief cloudy and cold morning conditions, reducing the incidents of ground frost.

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has advised the nation to expect cold and windy conditions as a cold front sweeps across the country from this Tuesday to tomorrow.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Met Department said the cold spell will be accompanied by strong gusts of cold wind. It said:

The entire country should be cold and windy in the morning. Met Department Predicts A Windy And Much Cooler Weekend

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has said isolated showers, drizzle, and rain which were experienced in some parts of the country on Tuesday will continue this Wednesday.
In an interview with <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/wet-spell-set-to-continue/">The Herald</a>, MSD head of forecasting James Ngoma said the late rains experienced yesterday were normal and came towards the end of the rainy season.
He said the wet spell emanated from a cloud band that was passing across the country from Botswana, but by Thursday, “normal” conditions should prevail. Said Ngoma:

The extreme northern parts of Matabeleland North (Binga District), extreme northern parts of Midlands (Gokwe North and South), Harare Metropolitan, northern parts of Manicaland and all Mashonaland Provinces should be mostly cloudy and warm conditions with isolated thunderstorms; though mild both morning and evening.
Masvingo and southern districts of Manicaland are anticipated to be briefly cloudy and mild at first becoming mostly sunny and warm by mid-morning.
Much of Matabeleland North, Midlands, Bulawayo Metropolitan and Matabeleland South is expected to be mostly sunny and warm by day, becoming mild towards evening.

MSD Weather Report & Forecast: 15 To 17 March 2023

The weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Services Department in conjunction with the Department of Civil Protection at 4 PM on Tuesday 14 March 2023 valid until Thursday 16 March 2023:
<h2>PREAMBLE</h2>
Localized heavy falls occurred in Chisengu (78mm) due to the rain bands from the former tropical storm Freddy.
Other areas in Manicaland and Masvingo Provinces received amounts between 5mm and 10mm with the exception of Mukandi, Chisumbanje and Chipinge with 29mm, 23mm and 21mm respectively.
All Mashonaland provinces had light of showers, while Matabeleland South Province and southern areas of Midlands had light rain and drizzle with cloudy, mild and windy conditions prevailing.
Matabeleland North and northern areas of Midlands had clear skies at first but became cloudy towards evening as the cloud bands from Freddy dispersed from its centre, currently over Malawi.
<h2>FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, WEDNESDAY 15 MARCH 2023,</h2>
Mostly cloudy and mild conditions are expected in the south-eastern, eastern and northern parts of the country; namely Masvingo, Manicaland, Harare Metropolitan and all Mashonaland Provinces with morning light rain in places.
Briefly cloudy and mild morning conditions are expected in Midlands and Matabeleland South becoming warm as the day progresses. Showers and light rain remain probable in places.
Matabeleland North and Bulawayo Metropolitan should be mostly sunny and warm by day becoming mild towards evening.

<h2>WEATHER OUTLOOK FOR THURSDAY 16 MARCH 2023</h2>
Mostly cloudy and warm conditions with isolated thunderstorms are expected in all Mashonaland Provinces and the northern parts of Manicaland.
Masvingo, southern areas of Manicaland and Matabeleland South provinces should be cloudy and mild at first with light rain in places becoming partly cloudy and warm by afternoon.
Midlands and Matabeleland North should start off partly cloudy and mild becoming sunny and hot by noon.

MSD Weather Report & Forecast: 14 To 16 March 2023

Parts of Nyanga District in Manicaland Province received more than 102mm of rainfall over the weekend due to moisture that stemmed from Tropical Cyclone Freddy.
According to the Meteorological Services Department (MSD), Nyanga received 102mm, Mukandi 97mm, and Chisengu 83mm. It said:

The extreme eastern parts of the country received very high precipitation amounts in areas such as Nyanga (102mm), Mukandi (97mm) and Chisengu (83mm).
This comprised thunderstorms and rain due to moisture stemming from the now decaying former Tropical Cyclone Freddy and relief rainfall caused by the mountainous area.
The northern provinces, Mashonaland West and Mashonaland Central had isolated thundershowers; while Matabeleland South and Masvingo provinces were cloudy and cool with rain and drizzle in places.
The only warm and dry areas were the northern parts of Midlands or Matabeleland North.

The MSD has forecasted isolated showers in Mashonaland East and Central as well as Harare Metropolitan provinces. It said in a statement:

Cloudy and mild morning conditions are expected in Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland east, Mashonaland East, Harare Metropolitan Manicaland, and Masvingo Provinces becoming less cloudy and warmer as the day progresses.
Isolated showers are expected in Mashonaland East and Central as well as Harare Metropolitan; with light morning rain and drizzle Manicaland, Matabeleland South and Masvingo provinces.
Matabeleland North, Midlands and Mashonaland West provinces should be mostly sunny and warm in the afternoon becoming mild in the evening.

The Department of Civil Protection (DCP) has warned the public to be wary of possible lightning strikes and to avoid parking vehicles under trees.
The MSD said on 15 March, Masvingo, Manicaland, Harare Metropolitan and all Mashonaland Provinces should be mostly cloudy and mild with morning light rain in places.

Cyclone Freddy Drenches Nyanga

The current dry and sunny weather conditions currently prevailing in most parts of the country are a result of Severe Tropical Storm Freddy which is in the Mozambique channel but moving towards the northern coast of Mozambique, the Met Department has said.
In a weather update issued in conjunction with the Department of Civil Protection on Thursday afternoon, MSD said much of the country was dry, with the only light shower being over Kariba. It said:

The proximity of Severe Tropical Storm Freddy, currently approaching the northern coast of Mozambique, led to a cirrus cloud over much of the north-eastern parts of the country (parts of Midlands, Harare Metropolitan, northern district of Manicaland and all Mashonaland Provinces); with a halo being noted in some places.
Cool morning conditions prevailed in these parts as the same system dried up much of the atmosphere with the only light shower being over Kariba.
It was sunny and mild in other parts of the country (Masvingo, Bulawayo Metropolitan, and Matabeleland North and South) and became warm by afternoon.

The MSD has forecasted mostly sunny and mild weather conditions, with a chance of afternoon thundershowers over parts Masvingo, Manicaland, Mashonaland East and Central provinces on Friday, 10 March.
Sunny and hot conditions are anticipated over the remaining provinces.
Members of the public have been urged to take measures to protect themselves against high daytime temperatures.
On 11 March, windy and cloudy conditions with light intermittent showers are expected in Manicaland Province. Said MSD:

In Manicaland Province expect windy and cloudy conditions with light intermittent showers that may be thundery in places.
Those in Masvingo, Midlands, Harare Metropolitan and all Mashonaland Provinces should experience brief cloudy periods and isolated afternoon thundershowers.
All other areas (Bulawayo Metropolitan as well as Matabeleland North and South Provinces) are anticipated to be mostly sunny and warm, though mild in the morning and evening.
