An unidentified man was brutally murdered by unknown assailants, who then discarded his body in a field, leaving it headless and without hands or feet.
The man is believed to have been killed on Saturday morning, with the body discovered later that same day.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has initiated a manhunt for the suspects and is urging anyone with missing relatives to contact the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Bindura or the nearest police station.
Inspector Milton Mundembe, the ZRP spokesperson for Mashonaland Province, said:

An unknown accused person committed this callous murder when an unknown accused person later dumped this body in a field without the head, both hands and feet.
As of now, the body of the deceased is at Bindura Hospital mortuary and anyone with missing relatives can approach CID Bindura or any nearest police station.

Given that the body was discovered with several parts missing, authorities suspect that the murder may be linked to ritualistic practices.

A father and daughter from Chirimuka Village in Gutu reportedly took their own lives while under investigation for the illegal burial of a newborn.
The bodies of John Chidanika (48) and his daughter Yvonne Chidanika (21) were discovered hanging from trees just a few meters apart. This tragic discovery came after police initiated a probe into the burial of Yvonne’s two-day-old infant.
Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Acting Spokesperson for the Masvingo Province, confirmed the incident. He said:

It is alleged that Yvonne gave birth at home with the assistance of a local midwife on April 11. Unfortunately, the infant developed breathing complications and passed away two days later.
John reportedly buried the child without informing the authorities, which led to a police investigation and plans to exhume the body.
Before their tragic deaths, the father and daughter told family members they were going to the Nerupiri Police Station to address the situation.
Yvonne’s younger sister followed them a few hours later and found them on a nearby hill. They allegedly asked her to return home to prepare a meal. When she returned later, she discovered both hanging from trees.

Government critic Wellington Masiwa, known on social media as Nyokayemabhunu, is facing possible deportation from South Africa following the issuance of an international warrant for his arrest by Zimbabwean authorities.
According to a copy of the warrant dated 29 April 2025, which has surfaced in the public domain, Masiwa is wanted in Zimbabwe to serve an outstanding 18-month prison sentence for fraud, in violation of Section 136 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23].
The warrant was issued under the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Protocol on Extradition, to which both Zimbabwe and South Africa are signatories. It instructs South African law enforcement agencies to arrest Masiwa and present him before a magistrates’ court for extradition proceedings. Reads the warrant:

WHEREAS a request under ARTICLE 10 of the SADC Protocol on Extradition under which the Government of the Republic of South Africa and the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe are signatory thereof, has been received for the request for provisional arrest of MR WELLINGTON MASIWA.
WHEREAS I am in receipt of information under oath that a warrant of arrest has been issued in the Republic of Zimbabwe against MR WELLINGTON MASIWA and that he is wanted to serve sentenced of 18 Months for One count of Fraud defined in Section 136 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act[Chapter 9:23], Laws of Zimbabwe.
AND WHEREAS I am also of the opinion, based upon information placed before me. that the issuing of a warrant of arrest under Section 5(1) (b) of the Extradition Act 67 of 1962, in respect of MR WELLINGTON MASIWA would have been justified on the similar charge of Fraud, had it been alleged that he committed the said offence in the Republic, and that he is a person liable to be surrendered to the Republic of Zimbabwe.
You are hereby directed to arrest him and to bring her before a lower court in accordance with the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Procedure Act, 1977 (Act 51 of 1977).

Journalist Hopewell Chin’ono has quoted one of Masiwa’s lawyers, Chrispen Machingura, as saying that Masiwa, widely known by his social media alias Nyokayemabhunu, has been in custody since 13 April 2025, when he was first arrested by South African police on immigration-related charges.
South African authorities have charged Masiwa with contravening Section 49(1) of the Immigration Act, alleging that he was found in the country without a valid visa or permit.
Masiwa appeared at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 30 April 2025, to answer to the immigration charges, during which time an international arrest warrant from Zimbabwe was formally served.
According to Chin’ono’s source, Masiwa’s bail application could not proceed because he presented a Zimbabwean birth certificate and national identity card bearing a date of birth that differs from the one recorded by the Zimbabwean government. 
The Zimbabwean authorities claim Masiwa was born in 1977, while the documents he submitted list his year of birth as 1987.
The Zimbabwean Embassy in South Africa has reportedly told prosecutors that the documents produced by Masiwa are fake. The court has postponed the case to 9 May 2025.
Masiwa, who managed several WhatsApp groups critical of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration, has reportedly told his lawyers that the fraud conviction cited in the extradition request is a pretext to silence him politically by imprisoning him upon his return to Zimbabwe.
Machingura also claims that all WhatsApp groups formerly run by Masiwa have since been hacked and are now being used to distribute pornographic content.

South Africa Arrests Nyokayemabhunu On Immigration Charges, Zimbabwe Seeks Extradition

A Kadoma man, Iwan Paraiwa (35), surprised many after choosing to consult a traditional healer (sangoma/n’anga) in Harare rather than immediately reporting the theft of his car to a nearby police station.
The vehicle was stolen while Paraiwa was shopping at a local supermarket, just 300 metres from a police station.
Instead of reporting the crime immediately, he travelled roughly 150 kilometres the next day to seek help from a n’anga.
The traditional healer was ultimately unable to assist, prompting Paraiwa to finally file a report with the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
Inspector Ian Kohwera, the ZRP spokesperson for Mashonaland West Province, confirmed the case. He said:

On the 28th of April 2025, police received a report of theft of a motor vehicle which happened at TM Pick and Pay parking bay within the Kadoma CBD area.
Circumstances are that on the 27th of April 2025 at around 1700 hours, Iwan Paraiwa (35) of 455 Ingezi Kadoma proceeded to Kadoma town with his motor vehicle, a blue Honda Fit old shape registration number AFZ 2665, and parked it at TM Pick and Pay parking bay, leaving the car keys on the ignition and the doors unlocked.
He entered the shop and came back after 20 minutes only to discover that his motor vehicle was stolen. Complainant checked for his motor vehicle around Kadoma town and failed to locate it.
On the 28th of April 2025 in the morning, Iwan proceeded to Harare to seek assistance from a traditional healer, only to come back to Kadoma in the evening and make a report at ZRP Kadoma Central…
Police are appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the motor vehicle.

Inspector Ian Kohwera urged motorists to exercise caution when parking their vehicles and to avoid leaving keys in the ignition.

Kadoma Man Turns To Sangoma Before Reporting Stolen Car To Police

The High Court has once again postponed to next Monday the bail appeal hearing for dozens of individuals arrested on March 31, 2025, in connection with alleged anti-government protests.
The delay follows a request from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), which sought additional time to call the investigating officer to support its opposition to the group’s release on bail.
On Wednesday, April 30, prosecutors informed the court they were not yet prepared to proceed. A previous attempt to hear the appeal was also delayed due to the NPA’s failure to submit the record of proceedings from the magistrates’ court.
Of the 98 people arrested, 94 remain in custody. Last week, the High Court granted bail to three women who were being handled in a separate application.
On Wednesday, only one of the accused persons, Munyaradzi Mazhiriri, was granted bail by High Court judge Justice Philipa Philips.
The group faces charges of participating in a gathering with the intention of promoting public violence.
According to the prosecution, the accused gathered at an open space known as Freedom Square in Harare at approximately 9:20 AM on March 31, allegedly intending to march through the capital’s streets.
Prosecutors further allege that the group wanted to proceed to State House with the intention of forcibly removing President Emmerson Mnangagwa from office. Said Prosecutors:

The accused were making their vows of removing the president saying ‘enough is enough, Mnangagwa must go, ED must go nezvigananda zvake. Madzibaba veshanduko huyai mutitungamirire, comrade Geza huyai mutitungamirire and whistled.
Police officers who were deployed for maintenance of order observed about two hundred 200 people gathered and approached the group.
The accused piled stones, bricks and tyres along Robert Mugabe road. They threw stones towards the police officers whilst singing Hatidi zvekupihwa order nemasasikamu.
They also took themselves pictures and videos which they posted on various social media platforms.

High Court Postpones Bail Appeal For 31 March Protestors At Prosecutors’ Request

An Australian woman is on trial over allegations that she fatally poisoned three relatives and attempted to murder a fourth by serving them a meal laced with toxic mushrooms.
Erin Patterson, 50, from the state of Victoria, has been charged with the murders of her former parents-in-law, Don and Gail Patterson, both aged 70, and Gail’s sister, Heather Wilkinson, 66, who died in July 2023.
She also faces a charge of attempted murder in connection with Reverend Ian Wilkinson, Heather’s husband, who survived but became critically ill after the same meal.
According to prosecutors, Patterson invited the four victims to lunch at her home in Leongatha, where she served beef Wellington, mashed potatoes, and green beans.
The court heard that the dish was allegedly contaminated with death cap mushrooms (Amanita phalloides), a highly toxic species known to cause severe liver damage and death.
Prosecutors further claim that Patterson lured the guests by falsely telling them she had cancer.
Patterson, who maintains her innocence, has pleaded not guilty to all charges. Her estranged husband, Simon Patterson, father of her two children, was also invited to the lunch but declined to attend.
During opening arguments on Wednesday, prosecutor Nanette Rogers said that Erin Patterson allegedly fabricated a cancer diagnosis and invited her relatives to lunch under the pretext of discussing how to inform her two children about the illness. Rogers:

The accused said that it was important that the children were not present for the lunch.
It is the prosecution’s case that the accused deliberately poisoned (the victims) with murderous intent.
The prosecution will not be suggesting that there was a particular motive to do what she did.

Defence lawyer Colin Mandy told the court that the deaths were a “terrible accident” and that Erin Patterson had no intention of harming her lunch guests. Said Mandy:

The defence case is that Erin Patterson did not deliberately serve poisoned food to her guests.

The court heard that the guests were each served individual portions of beef Wellington on four large grey dinner plates, while Erin Patterson ate from a smaller, tan-coloured plate.
All four guests became ill later that day and were hospitalised the following day. Don and Gail Patterson, along with Heather Wilkinson, later died, while Reverend Ian Wilkinson spent several weeks in hospital but survived.
The court was told that Patterson herself went to hospital two days after the lunch but initially discharged herself against medical advice.
Although she displayed mild symptoms, prosecutors said subsequent tests showed no evidence of toxins consistent with death cap mushroom poisoning.
Prosecutor Nanette Rogers also told the court that Patterson resisted doctors’ efforts to test her two children, whom she claimed had eaten leftovers from the lunch, saying she did not want to frighten them. The prosecution lawyer said:

She was reluctant to have the children medically assessed because she knew that, like her, they had not eaten any poisoned food.

Rogers told the court that although the defendant initially denied owning a food dehydrator, police later traced one belonging to her at a nearby rubbish dump. The appliance was found to contain traces of death cap mushrooms.
Mandy acknowledged that Patterson had lied on several occasions during the investigation, but said she did so out of panic in response to the intense public and media attention the case had attracted.

A 24-year-old woman from Manyame Park, Chitungwiza, was robbed and raped at knife point by a driver who offered her transport on Monday.
The woman boarded a Toyota Runx along Robson Manyika Avenue in Harare, intending to travel to Chitungwiza.
The unidentified motorist informed her that he needed to pick someone up at Guzzlers in Kuwadzana 6 before proceeding to Chitungwiza, and she agreed.
While en route to Kuwadzana, near the Dzivaresekwa turn-off along Bulawayo Road, the driver parked the vehicle on the roadside, locked the doors, produced a knife, and raped her once without protection.
Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, the spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Harare Province, confirmed the case. He said:

Police are investigating a robbery and rape case involving a commuter who was offered transport from Harare Central Business District to Chitungwiza.
The motorist diverted route and drove along Bulawayo Road where she was robbed, raped and dumped.
After the rape, the accused took complainant’s Mikom cellphone, a handbag, US$30 and ordered her to dress up.
The accused drove off from the scene and opened the door pushing the complainant off the vehicle and drove away.
Complainant was referred to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital for medical treatment.

Chitungwiza Woman (24) Offered Transport, Robbed And Raped

The State has resolved to bring joint charges against Alpha Media Holdings (AMH)’s subsidiary, Heart and Soul Television (HSTV), alongside journalist Blessed Mhlanga, in connection with the alleged publication of material inciting public violence.
This emerged when Mhlanga, who has been in custody since 24 February 2025, appeared before Magistrate Ruth Moyo to contest his continued detention.
Speaking to journalists outside the Harare Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, Mhlanga’s legal representative, Chris Mhike, said that the trial is scheduled to commence on 14 May. By that date, he noted, HSTV is also expected to have been formally charged.
Mhike objected to the postponement of proceedings, arguing that they had previously been assured a trial date would be confirmed on Wednesday.
However, following the lunch adjournment, the State indicated its readiness to proceed with trial. Said Mhike:

The state was supposed to give a trial date and allocate the matter to a trial court.
Initially, the state had indicated that they needed one more postponement, but the state has now decided to rope in HSTV.
The state has pronounced that HSTV, the organisation that employs Blessed Mhlanga, will be a co-accused.
Charges are going to be levelled against this media house called HSTV in respect of the charges that Blessed is facing.

Mhlanga is facing charges of inciting public violence through his journalistic work. The State alleges that he disseminated material likely to provoke public disorder, specifically by broadcasting a press conference held by fugitive war veteran Blessed Geza.
During the address, Geza called for President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s resignation and voiced opposition to plans for extending his presidency until 2030.

The government is charging Heart and Soul Television (HSTV) and journalist Blessed Mhlanga together for inciting public violence. Mhlanga has been in custody since February. The trial is set to start on May 14. The state has decided to bring in HSTV as a co-accused. Mhlanga is accused of spreading messages that could cause trouble, like broadcasting a press conference where someone called for the president to resign. The trial was delayed but is now moving forward. Mhike, Mhlanga's lawyer, argues against the postponement but the state is ready to proceed with the trial.

HSTV And Journalist Mhlanga To Face Joint Charges Of Inciting Public Violence

Former Chiredzi Ward 3 councillor Tarusenga Makamba has been denied bail and remains in remand prison on charges of inciting public violence.
Magistrate Tendai Mutamba denied bail last Wednesday, and Makamba is expected back in court next Wednesday.
Makamba allegedly shared a voice note in a ZANU PF WhatsApp group, Nhakayedu, urging members to “prepare for change” ahead of planned demonstrations by war veteran Blessed “Bombshell” Geza on 31 March.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) cited phrases such as “Chikomo che Wedza chopfungaira” from the recording as inciting.
He is represented by Ross Chavi of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Lawyers.

Former ZANU PF Councillor Tarusenga Makamba is in trouble for sharing a voice note in a WhatsApp group that talked about preparing for change. He was denied bail and is still in prison. Former ZANU PF Councillor Remanded Over WhatsApp Voice Note

The Chipinge Magistrates’ Court has sentenced Patricia Muyambo Magazini to 12 years in prison for nine counts of fraud. Ten years were suspended on condition of good behaviour and repayment.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Magazini defrauded victims of a total of US$40,020 by falsely promising nursing training places at Mashoko Hospital. The NPA said:

The accused falsely presented herself as an employee of the Ministry of Health stationed at Mashoko Hospital.
She would contact potential victims, sometimes through intermediaries, offering the opportunity for enrollment in training programs.

In one case, Magazini approached a prophetess, claiming gratitude for past prayers, and used the connection to offer a fake nursing training opportunity. 
She then asked victims for money, supposedly to cover training fees, accommodation, and uniforms. Said the NPA:

These payments were made through various money transfer methods such as Mojomula, Innbucks, Mukuru, and Ecocash. The offender, received the money from the complainants.
In some cases, intermediaries were used to collect and consolidate payments from multiple individuals.
To maintain the deception, the accused would make false promises, such as claiming that the victims’ names would be published in official publications like the Herald and Sunday Mail.
When victims began to question the legitimacy of the scheme, the offender would make excuses and provide false reassurances.
The scheme was carried out over a period of time, with different counts relating to different groups of victims and timeframes.

Chipinge Woman Sentenced To 12 Years Imprisonment Over US$40K Nursing Training Scam

Three University of Zimbabwe (UZ) lecturers are challenging their recent conviction and fines for allegedly participating in a peaceful protest over poor salaries and working conditions, arguing that their actions were lawful and constitutionally protected.
According to the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), the lecturers, Professor Obvious Vengeyi, Boncase Mwakorera, and Desmond Ndedzu, were arrested by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers on 16 April 2025 and charged with disorderly conduct under Section 41 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
The trio, who are also leaders of the Association of University Teachers (AUT), were briefly detained at Harare Central Police Station before paying US$15 each as admission of guilt fines to secure their release.
Police accused the three of leading a picket alongside other UZ staff members to demand better pay and improved working conditions. The protest took place during the Easter holiday period.
However, the lecturers, represented by lawyers Kelvin Kabaya, Emmanuel Lawrence Chibwe, and Tinashe Chinopfukutwa of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, are now seeking to overturn the legal consequences of the fines.
In a letter dated 22 April 2025 to the Provincial Magistrate at the Harare Magistrates Court, the legal team argued that the admission of guilt fines should not have been confirmed by the court, as the protest constituted a legitimate exercise of labour rights.
The lawyers contend that the lecturers only paid the fines under duress to avoid prolonged pre-trial detention and maintain that their conduct was protected by both the Labour Act and Section 65 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to collective job action.
They further indicated that should the court proceed with any criminal prosecution, they are prepared to mount a full legal defence on behalf of the lecturers.

UZ Lecturers Challenge "Admission Of Guilt" Fines

Police in Bulawayo have launched an investigation into an armed robbery that took place in Llanda suburb on the evening of 27 April 2025, leaving a 41-year-old man injured and robbed of cash and a vehicle.
According to a statement by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the incident occurred at approximately 6:00 PM when the victim was attacked outside his home while waiting for the gate to be opened.
Two unidentified suspects, who were armed with pistols and wearing face masks, reportedly smashed the window of the victim’s vehicle before shooting him in the right hand.

Police have since recovered the stolen vehicle, which was found abandoned on a dust road near the Bulawayo-Solusi Road. No arrests had been made at the time of reporting.

The collision occurred around 10:30 PM on 28 April 2025, along Bristol Road in Gweru. Nyathi said the occupants of a Toyota Aqua died on the spot when their vehicle crashed into a tree during a pursuit involving Constable Sakala of ZRP Mkoba.
Commissioner Nyathi acknowledged that the police are aware of video footage circulating on social media, purportedly showing moments related to the incident.
He added that disciplinary proceedings will be instituted against Constable Sakala, who is alleged to have caused the crash.
Allegations have since surfaced suggesting that Constable Sakala is a known rogue officer, reportedly involved in soliciting bribes from motorists.
Eyewitnesses further claim that he fled the scene of the crash, instead of offering assistance to the victims.

On April 21, 2025, at approximately 11:30 PM, Hadzisa was driving his silver 2004 Mazda Atenza (registration ACT 6658) towards Mucheke Rank.
Two men flagged him down near Mucheke High in another suburb of Masvingo, asking for a ride to Majange.
They paid US$5 for the trip and took seats, one in the front passenger seat and the other in the back.
As they reached the DDF area, the men ordered Hadzisa to stop. The passenger in the back then threatened him with an electric device, demanding money.
Fearing for his safety, Hadzisa handed over US$15. The rear passenger then forced Hadzisa into the backseat while the front passenger took control of the vehicle.
In a desperate attempt to escape, Hadzisa opened the door and jumped from the moving vehicle, suffering hip injuries. The two suspects sped off with the car, which has not been recovered.
The total value of the stolen items, including the vehicle, is estimated at US$3,015. The suspects remain at large.

In a statement issued on Monday, ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi also released the names of suspects who were arrested and convicted for various serious offences across the country during the week ending 24 April 2025. These are:

<li>Enock Mukwanda was arrested for theft of a motor vehicle. He was convicted and sentenced to 12 years imprisonment.</li>
<li>Nigel Matongora and Hope Masoka were arrested for armed robbery. They were convicted and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.</li>
<li>Collen Gweme was arrested for contravening Electricity Act, Chapter 13:19. He was convicted and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.</li>
<li>Cephas Mukombwe was arrested for contravening Precious Stones Trade Act, Chapter 21:06. He was convicted and sentenced to five years imprisonment.</li>
<li>Elizabeth Marikafu was arrested for dealing in dangerous drugs. She was convicted and sentenced to eight years imprisonment.</li>
<li>Isaac Mafa and Brian Tinomudaishe Kaseke were arrested for fraud and theft of a motor vehicle. They were sentenced to eight years imprisonment for theft and four years imprisonment for fraud.</li>

Police Name Convicted Criminals As ZRP Call For Harsher Penalties

In a landmark ruling, the High Court has awarded Dr Viola Dhudhla, an elder at the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) Church and a retired lecturer from Great Zimbabwe University (GZU), a record US$25,000 in damages for adultery. 
The decision follows her lawsuit against her husband’s mistress, Euginia Machaya, a villager from Chiredzi, for US$50,000 in compensation for loss of consortium and contumelia.
Consortium refers to the companionship, affection, and support one spouse provides to the other in a marriage, while contumelia refers to the harm, suffering, or humiliation that a person experiences due to the wrongful actions of another.
Justice Joel Mambara, in his judgment, acknowledged that the previous highest award for adultery had been US$20,000, but went on to grant Dr Dhudhla US$25,000, with the additional cost of the lawsuit being placed on the defendant. 
The judge noted that the nature of the case, compounded by the long-standing marital betrayal, warranted a higher sum.
Dr Dhudhla, who appeared before the court, explained the emotional and financial devastation she had suffered as a result of her husband’s actions. 
She told Justice Mambara that Augustus Ratidzo Machingura, her husband and a war veteran and sugarcane farmer in Chiredzi, had effectively stripped her of all spousal rights, surrendering them to Machaya. 
In addition to his affair, Machingura had taken the Mitsubishi Colt vehicle that Dr Dhudhla had been using, leaving her to rely on public transport, while purchasing a new Toyota Allion for his mistress.
The pain, Dr Dhudhla stated, was akin to a “sharp knife cutting through her heart” as Machaya inserted herself into a 41-year marriage. 
The betrayal did not end there—Machingura removed his wife as a signatory to their business bank accounts, replacing her with Machaya, and even removed Dr Dhudhla, along with their children and grandchildren, from the Tongaat Huletts Medical Aid, adding Machaya, her two children, and even those she had from a previous relationship.
Dr Dhudhla, who suffers from various health issues, including depression, diabetes, and hypertension, revealed that she had to fight in court for maintenance, which she now relies on for survival. 
Meanwhile, her husband resides with Machaya in Gutu, and despite his legal obligation to pay maintenance, Machingura had absconded, resulting in his arrest.
In his ruling, Justice Mambara awarded Dr Dhudhla US$25,000, with US$16,000 allocated for contumelia and US$9,000 for loss of consortium. 
The judge also noted the complete absence of remorse from Machaya, who had been involved in an affair that not only wrecked a stable marriage of over four decades but also led to the birth of two children outside of the marriage.
The case was unopposed, and Dr Dhudhla was represented by Pauline Chimwanda of Saratoga Makausi Law Chambers.

A 23-year-old woman from Siabuwa in Binga District, Matabeleland North Province, is accused of hanging her 6-year-old daughter from a tree using an electrical cable on April 25.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident, saying the suspect, Melody Mwiinde, later dumped the child’s body in an abandoned hut.
She reportedly confessed to the killing, saying she was being mocked for raising a disabled child who had been rejected by her father. The ZRP said:

Binga Woman Kills Daughter With Disability Amid Social Stigma

Luke Zinyengere, the prisoner who made headlines after dramatically escaping from prison officers at the Harare Magistrates’ Court on 21 March 2025, has been sentenced to 22 years in jail for his crimes.
Zinyengere was found guilty by Harare magistrate Letwin Rwodzi after a full trial, facing charges of escaping from lawful custody and armed robbery.
During the trial, the court heard that after slipping away from prison officers, Zinyengere pulled out a gun and forced a motorist to hand over their car, which he then sped off in.
He admitted to escaping from custody and partially accepted the armed robbery charge, claiming he had only used a toy gun to steal the vehicle.
However, the prosecution proved that he had used a real firearm, which had been smuggled into his prison cell by relatives with help from a prison officer.
Zinyengere received a 10-year sentence for the escape and 12 years for the armed robbery.
When passing sentence, Magistrate Rwodzi noted that the crime had been carefully planned.
She said the only mitigating factor was that Zinyengere is a family man and a first-time offender. Added Rwodzi:

The plan was executed in a movie-style and it traumatised a lot of people including court officials.
You also traumatised the innocent, the general public who were doing their business and the owner of the car whom you robbed.
The original crime that he is facing should be considered and in this case there are several cases of armed robbery.
I will settle for the highest penalty. Escaping from lawful custody shows that you cannot be rehabilitated in the near future. Society must be protected and jailbreak is not a kids’ game.

The court heard that on the day of the offence, Zinyengere escaped custody and robbed Tinashe Chiyamuro of his vehicle and mobile phones, fleeing at high speed towards Harare’s Kopje area.
The vehicle was later found abandoned on Kaguvi Street, where Zinyengere had nearly crashed into a spare parts shop before fleeing on foot.
Police recovered fingerprints from the vehicle, and the following Monday, acting on a tip-off, arrested Zinyengere in Ruwa as he attempted to hire a car after returning from Mutare.
A prison officer accused of assisting Zinyengere and another inmate, Tafadzwa Richard Marondera, to escape has also been arrested and awaits trial.
A prosecutor and two of Zinyengere’s relatives were likewise arrested for allegedly aiding the escape.
Meanwhile, Harare Regional Magistrate Fadzai Mthombeni sentenced Marondera to 10 years’ imprisonment for attempting to escape from lawful custody.

Luke Zinyengere Sentenced To 22 Years In Jail For Court Escape And Carjacking

A 36-year-old man from Sakubva, Mutare, has been convicted and sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment by the Mutare Magistrates’ Court for the rape and aggravated indecent assault of his neighbour’s four-year-old child. The incidents took place on 23 March 2025, around 4:00 PM.
The court heard that the child was playing outside her home when the offender, who lived nearby, called her into his house while he was alone. Once inside, he removed her clothing and proceeded to rape her.
In a separate incident within the same timeframe, he also committed aggravated indecent assault by inserting his finger into her private parts.
The child cried out, and the offender then lifted her and placed her on his lap. When she heard her mother calling, the victim went to her, still naked, and disclosed what had happened.
The matter was promptly reported to the police, and a medical examination was conducted. The medical report was subsequently presented in court as evidence.

A 36-year-old man in Mutare was jailed for 30 years for hurting a 4-year-old girl. He hurt her in his house and also touched her in a bad way. The girl cried and told her mom, who called the police. Mutare Man Jailed For 30 Years For Sexually Abusing 4-Year-Old

Three journalists have appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court on charges of extortion.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Desire Tshuma (47) of Observer News, Simbarashe Sithole (36), and Gideon Madzikatidze (38) of Bulawayo24 News, are accused of extorting Tafadzwa Tembura, a senior official at the Zimbabwe Copyright Centre (ZICCD). Said the NPA:

On the 15th of April 2025, Desire Tshuma allegedly contacted the complainant, Mr. Tafadzwa Tembura, a senior official at the Zimbabwe Copyright Centre (ZICCD) via WhatsApp using NetOne number 0715 128 881. 
Tshuma identified himself as a journalist from Observer News and claimed he was investigating a case of fraud involving the complainant and over US$20,000 in mismanaged employee funds.
Tshuma allegedly offered not to publish the story – but in exchange, he demanded US$100.00. The complainant complied and paid the amount at a meeting held along Kwame Nkrumah Avenue in central Harare.

Prosecutors also claim that on 16 April 2025, Tshuma returned with two other journalists, Sithole and Madzikatidze, who purportedly represented Bulawayo24 News. Said the NPA:

The complainant was pressured to buy them lunch and was again coerced into paying another US$100.00, bringing the total to US$200.00. 
On the 16th of April, Tshuma arranged another meeting with the complainant. All three accused met the complainant again under the pretext of getting his side of the story but the tone remained coercive.
On 22 April, Sithole allegedly sent a WhatsApp message to the complainant to keep the pressure on. 
Then on 23 April, Tshuma forwarded a draft article written by Sithole and Madzikatidze, containing damaging allegations. 
He warned the complainant that the article would be published if further payments weren’t made. At this point, the complainant realised the scheme was extortionate and alerted ZACC. 
A sting operation was set up, and on the 23rd of April, all three accused were caught red-handed accepting US$100.00 in trap money at the same Kwame Nkrumah Avenue location.

Tshuma, Sithole, and Madzikatidze were each granted bail of US$100 and will return to court on 28 May 2025.

Three journalists are accused of extorting money from a senior official in Zimbabwe. They claimed to be investigating a fraud case and demanded money not to publish the story. The journalists pressured the official to pay them more money and threatened to publish damaging allegations if he didn't comply. The official realized it was extortion and reported them to the authorities. The journalists were caught accepting money in a sting operation. They were granted bail and will return to court in May. Three Journalists Charged With Extortion

A prominent journalist, Blessed Mhlanga, has spent two months in prison after Zimbabwean authorities arrested and prosecuted him on criminal charges related to interviewing a perceived opponent of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who has been vocal in opposing manoeuvres to extend the ZANU PF political party leader’s tenure beyond the constitutional two-term limit.
The 44 year-old Mhlanga, who is represented by Chris Mhike of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, has spent 60 days in both police and prison detention after Zimbabwe Republic Police officers arrested him on 24 February 2025 and charged him with transmitting data messages with the intention of inciting violence as defined in section 164 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
Judicial officers at Harare Magistrates Court and at Harare High Court have on three occasions dismissed Mhlanga’s applications and an appeal to be released from prison on bail pending trial thereby condemning him to be detained for two months at Harare Remand Prison.
During his latest attempt for freedom, Harare Magistrate Donald Ndirowei dismissed Mhlanga’s application for bail, after ruling that there were no changed circumstances to warrant his release from prison and that the state had made significant progress in investigating his case to an extent that prosecutors were ready to furnish him with a trial date hence releasing him on bail when such significant progress has been made will not be in the interests of justice.
Prosecutors claim that Mhlanga, a senior journalist at Heart and Soul Broadcasting Services (HSTV), owned by Alpha Media Holdings, acted unlawfully when he allegedly recorded a video of Blessed Runesu Geza, a former ZANU PF central committee member and a liberation war veteran, and reportedly made it available to members of the public by transmitting and broadcasting it on YouTube, a social media and online video sharing platform and on HSTV, a digital content service provider and distributor, with the intention of inciting people to commit undisclosed acts of violence.

Blessed Mhlanga, a journalist, has been in jail for two months in Zimbabwe for interviewing a person critical of President Mnangagwa. A 36-year-old man from Chinhoyi has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for stealing and burning ZESA electricity cables.
Rothman Changara, an unemployed resident of Ruvimbo Phase 2 in Chinhoyi, was recently brought before the Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court for breaching the Electricity Act.
According to prosecutors, the incident took place on 8 February 2025, at around 3 AM in Cold Stream, Chinhoyi.
The National Prosecuting Authority confirmed the case, saying Changara’s actions disrupted the power supply and jeopardised critical infrastructure. The NPA said:

The complainant, a 53-year-old self-employed man, was awoken by the sound of something falling outside his house. Shortly after, the electricity went out.
When he stepped outside to investigate, he discovered that a 30-metre weather deck cable used to transmit power from a ZESA line to his meter box had been cut and stolen.
In a quick response, the complainant and a neighbour observed a distinct shoe print at the scene and decided to track it.
Their search led them to Gadzema Rank, where they noticed a large fire. Upon approaching, they found the offender actively tending to the flames, which were being used to burn the outer insulation of electricity cables, a common method used to extract copper for resale.
When questioned, the offender failed to give a satisfactory explanation for the origin of the cables. The shoe print at the fire site matched the one from the crime scene, linking him directly to the theft.
He was arrested on the spot, and the burnt copper wires were seized as evidence. The wires, weighing approximately 5kg, were weighed at Zimpost and matched the description and value of the stolen cable.
The court found that he acted unlawfully and intentionally caused damage to ZESA infrastructure.

Unemployed Chinhoyi Man Jailed For 10 Years For Stealing And Burning ZESA Cables

A 47-year-old teller employed by Zimsend, trading as Hello Paisa in Chipinge, has been convicted by the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court of theft of trust property.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Christwish Machamacha (47) was sentenced to 24 months in prison, with 9 months suspended on the condition of good behaviour and full restitution. She was also ordered to carry out 526 hours of community service. Said the NPA:

Between the 13th of March and the 15th of April 2025, Machamacha was stationed at Zimsend’s outlet located at Gonye &amp; Sons Supermarket in Chipinge. 
Her role as a teller involved receiving money from the company and disbursing it to local clients who had received international remittances. 
During that period, she was entrusted with a total of US$4,705 and ZAR600, intended strictly for disbursement to recipients. 
However, instead of processing payments to beneficiaries, the offender unlawfully converted the money to her personal use.
</blockquote>
On 15 April 2025, the company conducted an internal audit, which revealed that the money entrusted to Machamacha was missing. Added the NPA:
<blockquote>
Investigations discovered that the offender had used the company’s funds to send money to various people via EcoCash, in what appeared to be personal dealings, including attempts to secure online loans an activity completely outside the scope of her responsibilities. 
Realizing the audit had exposed her actions, the offender contacted an employee of Mukuru Chipinge, seeking help to cover the shortfall. 
She was provided with US$1,400 in cash, which she attempted to use to repay a portion of the stolen amount.
Despite this, a total of US$3,305 and ZAR600 remained unrecovered.

A woman named Christwish Machamacha who worked at a Hello Paisa branch in Chipinge took money meant for customers. She was supposed to give it to people who needed it, but she kept it for herself. When the company found out, she tried to fix it by getting help from someone else. Even though she returned some of the money, she still didn't give back all of it. Now, she has to go to jail for 24 months and do community service. She also has to pay back the money she stole.

Chipinge Hello Paisa Employee Embezzles Over US$3,300

Two members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Livingston Misiwa (37) and Bernard Chirwa (33), have each been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment by the Chirundu Magistrates’ Court after being convicted of stock theft, in contravention of Section 114(2)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23].
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), in September 2024, while stationed at ZRP Mashoko, the officers unlawfully seized three cattle from Silas Izazi, a local farmer, during a police operation in Mkushi.
One of the animals—a brown, hornless heifer—was part of Mr Izazi’s herd and was taken under the pretext of being linked to a “crime and property” number. The officers later claimed it was intended for public auction.
Following the incident, Mr Izazi lodged a formal complaint with the police. An internal investigation led to the arrest and subsequent prosecution of Misiwa and Chirwa, both of whom were found guilty of theft.
The prosecution pointed out that the officers had seriously let the public down. Instead of doing their job and following the law, they took advantage of their positions for their own gain.
While the court handed them five-year prison sentences, there is an option to pay a fine instead.
The NPA said this conviction is a firm reminder that law enforcement personnel who engage in corrupt or criminal activity will be held fully accountable.

Two Police Officers Sentenced To Five Years Each For Stealing Cow

Two members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) who were caught on video allegedly accepting a bribe and unlawfully releasing a suspect during a routine patrol in central Harare, were on Wednesday, remanded in custody to 28 April.
Rudo Chirengendure (28) and Nyasha Michael Mupandira (34) appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing charges of criminal abuse of duty as public officers, in terms of Section 174(1)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23].
The incident took place on 18 April 2025, while the officers were deployed to Parkade rank, at the busy intersection of Nelson Mandela Avenue and Rezende Street, as part of an operation targeting illegal money changers, touts, and unlicensed vendors.
However, instead of enforcing the law, the two officers were allegedly filmed receiving what appeared to be an illicit payment from a member of the public.
The footage, now widely circulated on social media, also shows the officers removing handcuffs from a female suspect before releasing her without following legal procedure.
Prosecutors argue that the officers’ conduct represents a serious breach of public trust and a clear violation of their sworn duties.
The State opposed bail and requested that both accused be remanded in custody to allow for further investigation. The matter was postponed to 28 April for a bail hearing.

Two police officers in Zimbabwe were caught on video taking bribes and releasing a suspect illegally in Harare. They were taken to court on charges of abusing their power as officers. This happened during a patrol to target illegal vendors. Instead of doing their job, they were filmed taking money and letting a suspect go without following the law. The government says this is a serious violation of trust. The officers were denied bail and will stay in custody until the next court date on 28 April for a bail hearing.

Two Bribe-Taking Police Officers Remanded In Custody

A 30-year-old woman from Nyanga, Manicaland, has been sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty of culpable homicide following a physical altercation with her father-in-law, which led to his death in September 2024.
Melody Fombe, from Dzapasi Village under Chief Katerere, was handed the sentence by Mutare regional magistrate Phathekile Msipa. 
One year of the sentence was suspended on condition of good behaviour over the next five years.
Prosecutor Last Goredema told the court that the incident happened in the early hours of 5 August 2024, around 4 AM Fombe was at home with her father-in-law, Conlious Chitambwe, and his daughter, Mitchel.
Mitchel later left the house to collect firewood, leaving Fombe and Chitambwe alone.
A disagreement broke out between the two, during which Fombe reportedly slapped Chitambwe and pushed him against a sofa. He suffered serious injuries as a result.
Chitambwe was taken to Nyanga District Hospital and later transferred to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital in Mutare for further treatment.
Sadly, he passed away on 16 September 2024 from injuries linked to the altercation.
A post-mortem was carried out a week later by Dr Robert Guillen, and the report was presented in court as evidence.

A 30-year-old woman in Nyanga hit her father-in-law, and he died. She was sent to jail for five years, but one year can be taken off if she behaves well. The incident happened early in the morning when only the woman and her father-in-law were home. The man was later taken to the hospital but sadly passed away from his injuries. Nyanga Woman Jailed Over Father-in-Law’s Death

A motor mechanic based at Rukweza Business Centre in Nyazura has been sentenced to 20 years in prison by a magistrate for indecent assault after he sodomised his son in an attempt to enhance his business.
The 40-year-old man, whose name has been withheld to protect the identity of the victim, informed the court that he had abused his 13-year-old son on the advice of a traditional healer.
It is alleged that the accused first harassed his wife, the teenager’s mother, until she left their matrimonial home. He then took advantage of her absence to perpetrate the abuse against his son.
Unable to endure the ongoing abuse, the teenager fled their homestead and sought refuge on the streets of Rusape.
The father, who was unrepresented when he appeared before Rusape regional magistrate Francis Mapfumo, did not prolong the proceedings and pleaded guilty to the charges.
When questioned by Mapfumo about the reasons for his actions, the convict stated that he was following the traditional healer’s advice in the belief that it would help to improve his business. He said:

I approached a traditional healer trying to find ways on how I can grow my business. The traditional healer told me that I should be intimate with my own son. I did exactly that.
The magistrate said the father’s moral blame-worthiness was very high, and sentenced him to the maximum of 20 years in jail for aggravated indecent assault and did not suspend any part of the sentence.

Prosecutor Marlon Makamba informed the court that the father began abusing his son in November 2024 and continued until March 2025, when the teenager ultimately fled the homestead. Said Makamba:

Sometime between November 2024 and March 2025, the accused person abused the complainant on several occasions. The complainant later went missing from home. The matter came to light after the complainant was located by his mother at Evergreen Market in Rusape.
The mother interviewed the complainant, and he revealed that his father was abusing him. The complainant was medically examined at Rusape General Hospital, and the medical report can be produced in court.

Motor Mechanic Jailed 20 Years For Sodomising Son To Boost Business

A 50-year-old security guard from Gutu District in Masvingo Province took his own life after allegedly stealing a firearm from a mine in Matobo, where he fatally shot a woman who rejected his advances and raped her companion.
Lloyd Mutsengi (50) shot himself in the chest last Thursday at his home in Jaravani Village, under Chief Gutu.
The acting spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Masvingo Province, Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu, confirmed the incident to <a href="https://masvingomirror.com/gutu-man-rapes-villager-shoots-another-then-kills-himself/">The Mirror</a>, adding that no foul play is suspected.
Earlier, police had posted an appeal on their official X (formerly Twitter) account, seeking public assistance in locating Mutsengi in connection with charges of murder, rape, and theft of a firearm.
It is alleged that Mutsengi reported for duty at Starlion Mine in Matobo, Matabeleland South, on Monday while intoxicated and was denied entry. He then allegedly stole a rifle from a fellow security guard.
As he left the mine, he encountered two women and threatened to shoot them if they did not comply with his demands. 
When one of the women refused, he allegedly shot her dead and proceeded to rape the other.
Following the incident, Mutsengi fled Matobo and returned to his rural home in Gutu, taking the rifle with him. 
On Thursday morning, he reportedly met his son at Mpandawana Growth Point, and they went home together.
Upon arrival, Mutsengi asked his son to visit their neighbours to borrow paper for rolling tobacco. While the son was about 100 metres away, he heard a gunshot. When he rushed back, he found Mutsengi lying dead in a pool of blood.
Police attended the scene and confirmed that Mutsengi had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. His body was taken to Gutu Mission Hospital for a post-mortem.

A security guard in Zimbabwe stole a gun from work and shot a woman who refused him, raping her friend. He then killed himself. Police had been looking for him for murder, rape, and theft. He threatened the women at a mine, but they didn't listen. He then fled back to his village where he shot himself. His son heard the gunshot and found him dead. Police found him with a gunshot wound. Security Guard Rapes Woman, Murders Another, Then Commits Suicide

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have confirmed the arrest of four suspects linked to a series of armed robberies that took place between March 31, 2025, and April 21, 2025, in Mhangura, Shamva, and Murewa.
ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi identified the suspects as Charles Dhokotera (42), Mayor Sibanda (34), Bothwell Kamwendo (40), and Trivolta Donald Matunhu (20). 
The men allegedly carried out their robberies while armed and dressed in camouflage clothing and police uniforms to deceive their victims. Said Nyathi:

On 21st April 2025 the suspects pounced at Nyamuzara Business Centre, Murewa, where they attacked a general dealer and cocktail bar owner, his family and some patrons before stealing seven cellphones and cash valued at US$1 300. 00.
The suspects were wearing camouflage and police uniform and were armed with three rifles, a pistol as well as baton sticks.
Subsequently, the complainants and other members of the public teamed up and blocked the suspects’ get-away car, a white Toyota Aqua vehicle, registration number AGC 2677. The driver sped off resulting in a speed chase.
The complainants alerted the police who reacted swiftly and made a follow up leading to the arrest of Charles Dhokotera after the suspects’ get-away car had developed a tyre puncture.
The police interviewed Charles Dhokotera who implicated, Mayor Sibanda, Bothwell Kamwendo and Trivolta Donald Matunhu, leading their arrest in Harare.

Nyathi added that the suspects guided the police to a bushy area near Shavanhowe River, in the Murewa Cross area, where they had hidden the items used to commit the crimes. He said:

The suspects led the police to a bushy area near Shavanhowe River, Murewa Cross area where the following property were recovered:- seven pairs of army camouflage uniform, four black combat shoes, three STU army caps, one green army jersey, a pair of hand cuffs, two button sticks, one sjambock, two reflectors, two pairs safety shoes, a 0.38 special revolver without rounds, a double barrel Shotgun loaded with 5 x 12 bore live cartridges, a Shotgun loaded with 5 x 12 bore live rounds and 2 x 9mm Retay Blank pistols.
The suspects are linked to two other robbery cases including a case of robbery which occurred at a mine in Mhangura on 31st March 2025 where 22 x 1m x 0.8m gold trapping mates and unknown number of 1 m x 0.6 m gold trapping mates were stolen.
The suspects are also clearing a robbery case which occurred at a mine in Tafuna, Shamva on 12th April 2025 where 50 cellphones, 20 grammes of gold and USD 4 400.00 cash were stolen.

Nyathi appealed to the public for information which may assist in the arrest of the outstanding suspects identified as Raphael Gwaze, Bothwell Kamwendo, Keda, and Dube. He said:

Military Fatigues And Police Uniforms Worn During Armed Robberies, 4 Suspects Arrested

Rumbidzai Magwaku (34), a bursar at Khumalo Primary School in Bulawayo, has been convicted of stealing US$502 in school development levies.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the funds were collected from students between February and December 2024 on behalf of the School Development Committee.
The theft came to light during a school workshop, where Magwaku admitted there were inconsistencies in the financial records.
A reconciliation exercise and government audit confirmed that the money had been misappropriated. Unfortunately, none of the funds were recovered.
Magwaku was found guilty by the Bulawayo Magistrates’ Court and sentenced to 420 hours of community service.

A bursar named Rumbidzai Magwaku stole $502 in school money. She took it between February and December 2024 from students at Khumalo Primary School. The theft was discovered during a school workshop when she admitted to wrong records. An audit confirmed the money was gone and could not be found. Magwaku was found guilty and has to do 420 hours of community service as punishment.
